Re: Upside Down Turkey Brining Experiment

Ten year update 21 lb turkey cooked from 0630 to about 1130 at 350f. Next time use cooking spray on celery/foil to avoid damaging skin. Brine was kept at about 41f most of the time with limited ice and 40-50f weather.. in the garage. Started defrosting on Sunday for a Wednesday korning brine and Thu...

Re: The SAAB Gets a Transmission

I put the used tranny in at 197k. With a new clutch and pressure plate. It now has 220k. I’m seriously considering just reusing this clutch. Also considering reusing the slave cylinder which was new at the same time. Thoughts?

Re: The SAAB Gets a Transmission

So the Saab has started to demonstrate symptoms of ‘reverse blocking’. I never knew this was an issue for these cars, but I guess I got to. Anyways, it means I can’t get the car into reverse. Awfully inconvenient since the car has to be in reverse to get the key out. I found a used one local on the ...

Re: Scientific-grade temperature measurement

I was reading this thinking you could have bought a cheap thermometer and stuck it in there. A degree or two of innacuracy would probably be fine in this case. But then I realized that I've never actually seen someone go through the mental effort to use a k type thermocouple and the temp probe piece...

Re: Generator inlet receptacle installation on house

Wow, thats a cool addition to the generator setup. The project boxes are a nice touch.

Funny how those old wires can be just fine for decades.. but just an afternoon of mashing them into each other and they're done.

Re: I bought a welder

Yeah, he even says "that's all ya need" not "argon will make things worse.". The Airgas guy was interested in me trying the old CO2 tank I had. He said co2 is the original shielding gas. All that said, I'll take any advantage I can get in learning to weld, and challenge myself la...

This guy recommends straight CO2 for sheet metal work.

Also, this is an awesome tip:

I may actually have an old CO2 bottle to trade in at Airgas.

Wow, that's a shitty feeling when no fluid comes out. Get yourself some electrolytes and some more of that unicorn blood ATF and you'll both be fine.

Gotta be drinking something when doing car work. I like coffee and water but bud light is basically the same thing.

Re: 05 STS trans cooler line leak

Well I was a lot less mature when I got my euro car, and basically knew nothing about it until i got sick of paying dealerships I didn't trust to fix it. I wouldn't wish that experience on you, but I don't think that's what's going to happen anyways. You enjoy those challenges. And I'm at the point ...
