Re: Engine Swaps
What about the gauge cluster? The '8051 runs the cluster and that's beneficial as you can easily calibrate the speedo in software.

Re: Maxima exhaust saga
Optimistic thought: maybe the annoying sound at WOT will prevent me from using WOT as much. Last two tanks have been less than 25mpg due to lots of idling and WOT.

Re: Engine Swaps
He can probably just swap the pump from the Caprice over to the Monte.
EDIT: Eh, it's carbed so I guess the fuel sender would need replacement (4.3L V6 TBI sender perhaps?) and a return fuel line run.

Re: Engine Swaps
In short, it's a combination of being traction limited in first (so diminishing returns) plus elevated cruise RPMs. Stock tire size is 215/65-15. If you're going to run something like a BFG Radial T/A in that size, those tires will be smoke through all of first gear. Which is slower, not faster. Usi...

Re: Engine Swaps
3.73 is arguably too much gear for a stock cammed LT1, though. Think of how your Caprice has no traction with 3.08s in a 2-ton car.
Solution: needs more cam. Eventually.

CRI of the GE reveal CFL bulbs: 70 CRI of the regular 2700K GE CFL bulbs: 82 70 is terrible. A lower number means there are more valleys across the color spectrum. If the lamp is not producing the wavelength, it can't reflect to your eyes. Halogen is basically 100. Note that white point is largely j...
Re: Makers
Yeah that's a step up from just repairing broken stuff. They're creating things from scratch.

Re: Maxima exhaust saga
Eh, it didn't fix it. I'll have to look at it some other time. At least the car is less obnoxious when I start it up at 6am.

Re: Maxima exhaust saga
I switched to U-clamps. And added the goop. To diagnose the leaks, I fashioned something to plug the exhaust. It's huge so a rag wasn't enough. I ended up stuffing the old bump stop from my rear shocks into the muffler, then inserted a 3/8" drive extension and the rag held all that mess in plac...

There's no way that will fit.
