Video Card

It's that beige box on your floor. In 1999.

Your old video card might be an AGP card rather than PCI-Express like the desktop takes. If the connector looks like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:AGP-Video-Card.jpg, it is AGP. If it looks like this:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ATI_ ... e_view.jpg, it is PCI-Express. The two interfaces are not compatible.

So DVI to the new monitor and HDMI to the TV would probably be optimal. As I said before (even though I didn't catch the resolution stuff in my reply/quip) I still recommend a new video card. Then you can split the resolutions any way you want (which will end up being both 1080p).

Adam- pretty sure my old video card is AGP (from a quick look at the pics). But I'll verify later today. Assuming that's the case, then I can't do a trial test to see if the comp would accept a new external video card.

Kevin- yes, ideally my desktop would have another video output for DVI or DisplayPort but that's not the case here unfortunately. Otherwise, I could just send HDMI to the TV and VGA to the secondary. But for now, I'll live with the VGA going to the primary monitor and HDMI being split between the secondary monitor and TV.

Thanks for your help!

We now have visual confirmation. What I have in my old desktop is an AGP card.

Just out of nostalgic interest, what kind of card is it?

It appears to be a PNY GeForce FX 5200 64-bit DDR 128MB TV-Out. Exact model number would be GF05200A8D11G-MP4BXA.

Fancy. For some reason, you can still buy the 256MB version of that card new on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Geforce-FX520 ... B000F5IE9Y

Here are some performance numbers for Unreal Tournament 2003 for that card and its competitors from back in the day: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/vga ... 53-13.html
