MiniSIM to microSIM

They're not just for making phone calls anymore. But they sometimes need repairing.

MiniSIM to microSIM

Post by kevm14 »

This is kind of weak because I have no pics. But my mother-in-law wanted to upgrade from a phone taking a miniSIM to a phone taking a microSIM. Except I didn't realize the phone I recommended took a microSIM until we got home and I tried to put her SIM in it. There are directions all over the place on how to do it. So the purpose of this post is to say that IT WORKS.

Tips:
  • - The new phone came with a GoPhone microSIM which I used as a template to mark the miniSIM before cutting
    - Make sure the SIM chip itself is centered when you mark, on both axes
    - I used a mechanical pencil to mark so the line would be thin, but be careful as graphite is conductive
    - Once I quadruple checked my marks, I scored my lines with a new utility blade probably 6 or 8 times
    - I used some sturdy utility scissors to do the final cut (and I free-handed the locating notch)
    - Finger nail file the edges so the new microSIM doesn't get lodged in the SIM tray
That's it! Worked the first time, no problem.
