Freiburger's F-bomb is mentioned early on.

Tom is big on streetability, which is great.

Very interesting commentary on centrifugal blowers vs turbos.

You heard it direct from Tom: 1200 hp is enough for the street. lol

I'm a little annoyed he dodged the meat of the power vs reliability discussion. There are some obvious tips/tricks he could have gone over that wouldn't have blown his secret sauce (eww). For example, he could have talked rod length, bearing clearance, ring gap. He did talk fuel management and cooling as critical, which they obviously are.

The heat discussion was also interesting. I always knew that heat is power, and heat is efficiency. He mentions this. But heat can be the enemy so it is a balance.

Also interesting about the water to air intercoolers. The OEMs have picked up on that lately for sure.

Learned about Matt Happel who reminds me of the greats who figured out the original 80s EFI and supported the entire community without resorting to "I've got a secret."

Here are some tunes of his, freely available:

Maybe it's a coincidence but his Fairmont (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgGgShB1iHQ) looks, sounds and goes an AWFUL lot like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhg_AFlDMTE

Same guy?

Still not sure if same guy or not, but this is at least the same guy who did the Dad ride-along video. This video is a good reminder of how annoying high stall converters are on the street.

Ah yes, same guy! Watch the credits at the end of this one! Cool. Small world then.

Forgot to finish my thought on the heat comment. Reminded me of Smokey Yunick and his experimental hot-vapor engines.

http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hrd ... or-engine/

There is another article probably from a vintage C/D that is what I am really looking for. But the Hot Rod article is pretty good.

Whoa:
Eventually, there was a three-cylinder Buick (half a V-6), a Ford project, and a Mopar Omni/Horizon. Every application got more than 45 mpg and made at least 1.8 hp/ci. The Detroit OE boys and nationally certified independent labs verified all the claims and performance figures. It was on the verge of going into production (one application, for the '90 S-10 truck, got very close). Crane Cams was given a license to develop aftermarket retrofit kits. Then everything fell apart.
First I've heard this. Cue the "Big Oil" conspiracy theorists. Or just read the rest of the article.

35:1 compression ratios on gasoline engines! That's wild.
