This is really mint! https://greenville.craigslist.org/cto/d ... 12781.html

There have been zero of these sold on BaT so it's a risk, but this is kind of in the ballpark of something that might be interesting on there. Mint condition, one-owner, 90s nostalgia. XJ Cherokees from the same era regularly sell for a lot on BaT.

The XJ is lighter, smaller, better off road, but considerably less comfortable especially for rear seat passengers and imo worse on road overall. And somewhat ironically, the unibody of the XJ is one of the things that makes it superior off road. The frame of the S10 Blazer hangs down below the body a decent amount, whereas on the XJ there is a ton more ground clearance in the middle (less likely to high center, etc.). 4.3 V6 has the same 190 hp by the mid to late 90s and I don't think the 4.0L I6 is any more bulletproof than the 4.3L V6 overall. It does have potential injector issues but those are easy enough to deal with. The XJ's solid front axle is also considered better off road (and worse on road).

In fairness I would rate the XJ's overall reliability higher, because it is a more simple vehicle for the most part. The first gen Explorer was actually a decent vehicle, which may come as a shock, as well. You could get 300k out of those (ok not on the original trans, or maybe even the 2nd trans).
The Blazer was Playboy magazine's Truck of the Year for 1995 and was also the unanimous winner of the Motor Trend 1995 Truck of the Year. Exterior and interior size were increased, bumping it up to a mid-sized SUV.
The Blazer may be in the shadow of the XJ in terms of hindsight appeal but the Blazer is an icon in its own right, beating the XJ to market by a year, and being plenty competitive in the market at the time. The platform also has seen some more interesting variations, including the Bravada with an AWD transfer case (certainly this was available on the XJ - branded "Selec-Trac") but maybe most importantly the Syclone/Typhoon.

Or this:
The ZR2 Package
The ZR2 package was only offered on the 2 door Blazer as the 2 door had the shorter wheelbase. It had a wider ladder type frame which made the track for the truck approx. 3.9 inches wider. It also lifted the Blazer about 3 inches which made it be able to clear 31x10.5 tires on 15 inch wheels. An enhanced front (7.25" ring gear) and rear (8.5" ring gear) axles w/ 3.73:1 rear-axle ratio. Larger wheel and axle bearings. A front anti-sway bar, skid plates, Bilstein shocks, and a beefier rear axle. This package was a little over $1000 and it was first introduced on the S10 pickup in 1994 and was carried over to the Blazer in 1996.
I didn't realize the ZR2 was that serious in the 90s.

Or this:
The ZQ8 option suspension package comes standard on the 1999-2003 S-10 Xtreme and 1996-1998 S-10 SS models, but was also available as a sports package on either the S-10 or GMC Sonoma. The package included a total lowered ride height of approximately 2" over stock (1.5" from suspension, ~0.5" from shorter tire diameter), thicker front sway bar (33mm), rear sway bar (23mm), quicker ratio (12:1) steering box, upgraded Decarbon or Bilstein gas shock absorbers, and a frame brace. Some ZQ8 models were also equipped with a frame to axle "anti-hop" shock.
The lowered stance was achieved using front coils with a different spring rate, and a 3-leaf rear spring pack.

Wheels and tires were also upgraded to 16" x 8" cast aluminum rim with 235/55/16 Goodyear Eagle GA tires. The Xtreme package used a different style rim than a standard truck equipped with the ZQ8 option. There are 2 versions of "ZQ8" wheels - 1996-2000 (also standard on 1996-1998 SS trucks), similar in design to 3rd generation Camaro wheels, and 2001-2003 (also used on Blazer Xtremes from 2004-2005), which bear a resemblance to an IROC Z28 wheel. Another variation among different models was in the center caps. S-10s and Sonomas used a grey center cap with the exception of the 2002-2003 S-10s, which featured a chrome center cap.

The suspension package can be retrofit to any 1982-2003 2wd S-Series truck, although some parts require modification, such as drilling for sway bar mounts or boring the hub on the wheels for a 1982-1993 truck. Also of note, since the package came on I4 and V6 trucks, spring rates in the coils do vary.

I have to say, I had the older Jimmy, it was junk. (the 2.8 version) These seemed worse... I used to hear all the time how these were super unreliable.

I wanted to like these but was terrified of them.
