Yeah so FINALLY the Roadmaster is mastering the road again. Brake lines, oil cooler lines, oil change and adjusted the drums (shoes).

Here is a round trip map from a gas station I use and might actually leave and return to depending:
Google Maps says 12h 22m total driving time, 669 miles. It wouldn't let me pick a departure date/time. It does provide a cool elevation map for the trip. Pretty much all of it is into and back out of VT. Looks like a peak of about 2,400 ft. Actually that was because I accidently selected walking?? Well it probably applies anyway.

Bing Maps says 13h 36m total driving time, 721 miles. I didn't check to see if the routes are different but I have generic city names in there for Boston, Bennington and Portland, not specific destinations so those could vary.

Unlike Google, it allows me to enter a departure date/time. So I selected Thursday, October 15. I am not sure when we would actually be meeting in Boston to start but I'd assume a fairly early start. I assume we'd pull out of RI at like 7am? Could be earlier or later, not really sure. With that, it stayed the exact same 721 miles so I guess the same route, but the time changed a little to 13h 53m and that's because we're driving into Boston on a Thursday morning (which sounds terrible!!). If we leave at 6am, it changes a bit. Down to 686 miles and 13h 27m. But honestly this is only good for the first day. To do this accurately, I'd need to string together each day separately. Too much work for now.

But what I will do is at least break down the time/mileage for each day.

Day 1: RI to Boston to Bennington, VT.
Google says 1h 11m and 66 miles to Boston and then 2h 59m and 144 miles to VT. Total 4h 10m and 210 miles for Day 1.
Bing says 1h 33m and 65.5 miles to Boston and then 3h 12m and 149.7 miles to VT. Total 4h 45m and 215.2 miles for Day 1.
Website says "Estimated 215-315 Miles." Probably more scenic than pure highway/direct. That will probably add considerable time. Maybe double. So call it maybe an hour and a half into Boston and then 8h to VT. Potentially over 10h of driving but broken up at the beginning a little bit.

Day 2: Bennington, VT to Portland, ME.
Google says 3h 52m and 214 miles.
Bing says 4h 2m and 214.4 miles.
Website says "Estimated 360-400 Miles." WAAAY more scenic, damn. Though that might be a nice drive. This will probably add way more time possibly close to double, or even more? This is clearly the biggest driving day, even accounting for having to drive into Boston on Day 1. Or maybe not, because it may only be around 8h of driving. But this would be continuous basically.

Day 3: Portland, ME to Loudon, NH.
Google says 1h 56m and 98.7 miles. But then we have to go home so add another 2h 24m and 145 miles for a total Day 3 driving time of 4h 20m and 243.7 miles.
Bing says 1h 55m and 98.8 miles. Again, we'd have to go home so add another 2h 44m and 158 miles for a total Day 3 driving time of 4h 39m and 256.8 miles.
Website says "Estimated 250-300 Miles" just to Loudon so yet another VERY scenic drive that will probably double or triple the time for that piece. Or more, if it's really low speed. And I added more to get home, which would be direct. So assume maybe 6h of driving from Portland to Loudon and then 2.5-3hrs home. Maybe a 9h driving day but broken up so not as bad. We will be exhausted I think, unless we are able to get a lot of sleep in between days.

This is good to know. And using the website estimates, I put Day 1 at 281 to 381 miles. Day 2 is already set at 360-400 miles. And Day 3 should range from 400 to 450 miles. Total mileage 1,041 to 1,231 miles. That's significantly more than the original direct routes in the previous post.

Next would be to break up drive into days and use departure times to get a better estimate I guess. If they publish routes that will be nice but that might not be for a long while.

Other steps include looking for hotels/motels along the way.

Probably won't be taking the Mass Pike...but at least the destinations should be in the roughly correct locations (New Hampshire Motor Speedway being exact).

Definitely does a good job making the case that CT is not part of New England (inside joke, kind of).

So continuous driving time reported by Google and Bing ranges from about 12.5 to 13.5 hours if the route was driven all at once and via the fastest routes.

Adding up all of my estimates above, it could be on the order of 27 hours of driving over 3 days. Which is obviously a shitload.

So with that due diligence, who thinks they are still in?

- I am. I would drive the Roadmaster as planned. Not sure about bringing Ian though...that just seems brutal. I think it would become not fun for him, probably before the end of the first day...
- I am sure Adam is down. Bringing Jenn? Probably bring the Fleetwood?
- Ed? Obviously the Roadmaster wagon.
- Bill? Want to bring a car or be a passenger? We have a funeral procession of black B and D bodies which is something (and radios).
- Tim? I'll ask Tim as he is not on the forum...same question as Bill
- Bender? Same question as Bill and Tim.
- Bob? Fly up...be a passenger or rent something would be the options.

I am certainly up for a co-driver by the way, or at the least a fulltime passenger. Just saying.

As we discussed, I'm waiting for the right time to get permission. I'd put my participation at 55% right now.

If a car purchase was possible, this would be an interesting one: https://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/d/ ... 29294.html
