94 Fleetwood charging and starting issues

Post by Adam »

This has been an issue off and on. It's been not starting sometimes (no crank or even click). I thought I had addressed the starting issue by cleaning up most of the battery cables, but it did it today when I was leaving the shop after getting a sticker. I have not cleaned up the starter connection nor have I ever replaced the starter so it has between 65-235K on the starter. I should probably do that.

The charging issue is more straight forward, it sometimes doesn't charge at idle but will start once it revs over 2K or so. Usually after getting it to start charging, it is fine, but sometimes it isn't. Several years ago I replaced the otherwise functional alternator with a new AC Delco alternator to address a noisy bearing. I think I still have it somewhere, so I could swap the diode rectifier into the 'new' alternator and see how that works. I should probably do that too.
