99 Dodge Ram fog lights

Post by kevm14 »

A fog bulb burned out. Both lenses are hazed and cracked. Manual says 893 bulb. But it takes an 896. Bought an 893. And then I decided to look on eBay. Found this:

Brand new pair of fog lights WITH bulbs for only $28. Seems like the way to go. Should help night time visibility. Headlights are also hazed over...

Fog lights arrived. I'll put them in at some point.

RockAuto also sells them. $23 each, plus shipping. So like twice as much.

FWIW, RockAuto also correctly lists the bulb as an 896 while the OWNERS MANUAL incorrectly lists it as 893. Great.

I can also get a Dorman pair of brand new headlights WITH marker/turn signals for $95. Bulbs included of course.

They have even cheaper options all the way down to like $50 for the pair without markers or brackets. Or down to ~$58 WITH. Damn. Hard to get excited about polishing for those prices. Not that I drive in the dark much but like...it's a safety item obviously. And aside from that, I hate hazed headlights both the way they look and the way they perform. Drives me crazy.

That was easy. I completed the replacement on the driver's side before I realized I could just open the hood and have better access.

The new bulbs were filthy so good thing I thought to clean them with alcohol. I saved the good bulb as a spare.

The beam height adjuster is Philips instead of torx but whatever. I will adjust next time it is dark and I'm using the truck.

Just went out to aim them. Good thing I did. They were in the tree tops. Brought them as low as they can go which nicely augments the headlights. This is a good result. But now it is obvious that the headlight performance is really compromised.
