Oluv's interactive speaker database

Post by kevm14 »

This is pretty cool but you have to listen with quality/monitor headphones.

At the $300 price point, there seems to be no better value than the Aiwa Exos-9. 200W, continuous. Li-Ion removable battery. Buy two and one can play left and the other can play right. Or both can be in stereo.

There are some other choices for smaller speakers that would fit into a smaller bag. But this tool is impressive to actually compare sound quality, across a few kinds of music and also at a moderate volume compared to full volume. Most speakers won't drive to distortion and will instead limit bass and the Awia has a lot of amplifier headroom so it doesn't seem to limit bass even at full tilt.

I looked at a bunch of reviews....Bose Soundlink and JBL Extreme for smaller size. Diamondboxx makes some quality stuff but is expensive. Harmon Kardon is also good but doesn't have the overall capacity or features of the Aiwa.

This may be the best at the $99 price point: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Soundcore- ... ay&sr=8-13

These things are getting really sophisticated. For example for $99 you get:
- 30W of amplification.
- Dual woofers and dual silk tweeters
- Passive radiator
- Active crossover with separate amplifiers and power supplies for each speaker.
- Says 50hz to 40Khz (I lol'd at the 40Khz)
- Fully waterproof
- 12 hour nominal play time per charge
- Supports two playing as left and right
- Has an app with a 9 band EQ. One caveat is it seems to require the EQ to get anywhere near a flat response and the settings required for that are pretty wild so not the best out of the box. That is disappointing and means the best sound is going to be via BT and a phone that is running that app.
- Bluetooth 5.0 (aptX)

A 360 speaker may be better for some instances. https://www.amazon.com/Soundcore-Portab ... way&sr=8-9

It looks like the Aiwa finally has some competition. Like 4 years later. JBL Partybox 100.

I need to listen with my good headphones but it sounds like the JBL may be a better outside system due to having more loudness plus a classic smile EQ sound. Early impressions are that the Aiwa may still be more balanced overall and seems well suited to indoors or something other than completely open air (i.e. even against a wall). I don't know if the JBL is available quite yet but I think it will be around $300, which is what the Aiwa costs. Given how much Bluetooth speaker innovation there has been in the past 4 years it is absolutely crazy that it took this long to catch up to the Aiwa. And for, say, $250, I'd probably impulse buy it.

Also, seemingly every site I visit comes up with an Amazon ad for the Aiwa...they want me to buy it. Also I've looked at it a ton...

Watched it. Yeah that JBL is impressive outside. I am impressed with low end extension. For inside and maybe more general musical enjoyment rather than simply being loud, I think it would still be the Aiwa, especially as a single. For $600 I think two of the JBL Partybox 100s would be the way to go though. For the $300 single unit price, with an emphasis inside, I think I'd still pick the Aiwa but his indoor review is pending so we'll see.

One thing the JBL still does is use their signature sound which I kind of don't like. They emphasize sort of the mid treble area and it can sound harsh to my ears. You never get that on the Aiwa because I think it has more neutral tuning. Plus the Aiwa has that 5 band EQ.

The JBL has a mic and guitar input which is pretty cool. I don't need those things. It even has a pole mount. I may be able to convince Tim to get this one though...

Available for pre-order. This is a very versatile speaker (I think that is what the Partybox line is for and this is the newest and cheapest variant).

Lost my post. Funny characters in my pasted Youtube video titles cause mySQL or phpBB some serious heartburn and I've seen this before...but I digress.

Anyway I wanted to check in that I am very happy with my Anker Soundcore Motion+. It gets loud, has impressive bass for its size, and is very clear. I think part of this is probably the aptX lossless BT codec. I was never happy with the sound of the very old A2DP standard.

Here is the video that convinced me to buy one:
…Bose, JBL & Sony... kill them all for 100$

and

Anker Soundcore Motion+ best 100$ Bluetooth speaker 2019

Both are from Oluv's Gadgets, an Austrian guy who I trust very much after watching many reviews. He uses some high quality binaural microphones which, when combined with quality headphones, mean you pretty much hear exactly what he hears, not just in terms of frequencies but also stereo/imaging.

I ordered a second Motion+. Tim told me it is temporarily $80. He may have ordered one as well.
