Windows Phone announcements

Holy crap.

Spec whore much? Well, they are doing the right thing. This will hopefully get enthusiasts more excited about the platform. That usually pays dividends down the road.

I'm so excited, I can't even see myself spending that much on a phone.

The $80 Lumia 640 is the elephant in the room. BUT, despite that being a world beating value, it still isn't as exciting to headline readers. The same people who STILL go to the carrier store and walk out with a phone on contract.

The only platform that's remotely necessary is the iPhone. There are too many decent value Android phones even. But the top dogs get the press and that's important. Like a halo car model that most people can't afford (or lease).

Yeah, people don't know how to buy things.

My problem with this is they priced these things like Apple devices. I would rather they priced them like this https://oneplus.net/2. Same hardware. Half the price. Windows 10 Mobile is nice, but its not worth $300 extra.

I just noticed the URL actually refers to this as a Hero Announcement.

Windows Continuum is a pretty big feature.

But do we know how these are priced? MS doesn't say.

If they are the $500-$600 price range, then I'm glad I got my 1520, and I should be able to pick up something more reasonably priced when it's time to replace it.

Ah.
The 950 XL upgrades to a 5.7-inch screen and an octacore Snapdragon 810 processor. It should ship next month for $649 — the regular 950 should ship around the same time for $549.

So does Continuum run Win32 applications, or not? If not, then Win 10 phones come with Windows RT, which is interesting (and validates the experiment at least).

You don't quite get the same experience as you would if you plugged in a laptop, mind. Considering the limitations of phone processing power, Continuum only allows for a single app to be used at any one time: you can't have an array of windows open and simultaneously visible.

Wow. Sounds like you don't get windows desktop but instead get a selection of Win 10 universal apps, which also need a higher bar of compatibility with Continuum (unless they are required to do so eventually). So...it's a phone with a Win 10 RT tablet built in, minus the desktop (so Win RT the way many folks say it should have been built).

Yes. Hence my previous comment.
