Light was off when I started it to go home. But came back on after ~12 minutes after sitting in some stupid traffic.

EDIT: Meanwhile the truck still has not thrown a cat code and it has no cat at all. And it smells. The STS does not smell.

I will check the code when I get back to the headlight job. Assuming it is just the P0430 I will reset and monitor over the next week. If it comes right back on I may have a real issue on my hands.

It did have a P0430 so I reset it. Surprisingly to me, it also had another code, which I will post in the appropriate thread.

Pic from my generic reader for fun.

Drove in with the scan tool connected to check....things. Related to this thread, I will say that as far as OBD system readiness, all systems were ready except evap, That includes the catalyst. I believe it would pass right now, with evap not ready. I believe 1996-2000 vehicles can have two systems not ready. 2001 and newer vehicles can only have one system not ready. I'm sure my evap system is fine but it may take a bit to run the diagnostic (possibly having to do with fuel tank level and stuff). Overall this is good news and seems to confirm that the light being on for an extended time had nothing to do with the cat getting worse or something, but was the lean code. Speaking of, about to add to that thread...

Drove it 10 minutes to a school function. I thought... these are ideal conditions to set a code on a warm restart in an hour. Sure enough, on the way back, it pops the code. Reset. Hope it doesn't come back before Saturday. And hope enough systems become ready in time. Only one system can be not ready to pass...

Evap may not run when the tank is below 1/2 but right now it is above so maybe it will run. And maybe I can force it to run with the Tech 2? I guess I will see what systems are not ready Sat morning and if more than one is not ready I'll just have to figure something out. Or take it and fail...

Came on again this morning (1 week later). I pulled out of my neighborhood and got stuck behind a school bus while engine was warming up. Perfect conditions for a code. I'll scan when I get home but assume it is a P0430 and nothing else. At least I have my sticker.

Just to show that I have control over this...

The day I reset it I decided to keep my generic scantool in the back seat. You know, for convenience. The light hasn't come back since.

Furthing this post, I would also posit that the light WILL come back on now that I have made this comment.
