Matt Maran: 2019 Camaro V6 1LE

He likes it! Apparently discounted these are selling for mid to high 20s. Find me a better driver's car in that price range. I'll wait.

Also, this is funny...the V6 and 4 cylinder got this front end which actually looks good, even in 2019. Hilarious.

Some thoughts:

It looks pretty good, better than the bumper-gate disaster, maybe better than the bumper-gate refresh.

I like the seats. Tail lights look like aftermarket lancer lights... EVOOOOOOO

I think the gen 5 still looks better overall, interior and exterior.

Who cares if this is ok if there is literally no circumstance where you would buy one?

Bumper gate. That is pretty funny.

As for caring why this is good, there are many reasons. I guess the main reason is conquest sales. Not in a pure sense but if someone shows up to the dealer for a brand new 370Z or BR-Z/FR-S, I'd ask....why? This is superior to those. Also, this is a great car for someone who wants what you could think of as a brand new E36 M3 or maybe even an E46 M3. There are many use cases for this car, provided you aren't requiring or expecting a V8 (none of what I mentioned had a V8, either). Again, also take into account real world transaction prices which are mid to high 20s. This is a lot of performance car for the money.

This was a 1LT car so other than a few upgrades, it's fairly low trim. I suspect, but am too lazy to compare, that this is a nicer interior than a 1LT gen 5.

Also this car is 5.5 seconds faster around VIR than the original 2010 Camaro SS (then again the 1LE turbo was 3.9 seconds faster, too). And only 2.5 seconds slower than yours. I can look at an ugly bumper if that platform can make a V6 do that.

This list comprises cars between the V6 1LE and turbo 1LE. There are many V8s in here. Again, I'd buy a V2 over a V6 1LE, even though the VIR times are the same. I just can't see dismissing the car because there are most likely people out there that are ideal targets. The question is, do they know or care that the Camaro could fulfill their needs...

Maybe what I mean is that I wouldn't necessarily buy a V6 1LE over any of these cars. But I WOULD buy it over a BRZ tS (3:14) or a 370Z (3:12). 10 seconds off the VIR time is going to show up in day to day driving.

The point of my comment wasn't to discredit the performance of the V6, but to make the statement that for only a few more grand, you could have the V8 which is really good.

A lot of the cars you mentioned also give the owner some amount of luxury prestige that you aren't getting from a V6 Camaro, so I don't see many people cross shopping an Audi or BMW with a V6 Camaro, even if the Camaro is faster. Because... Golf course.

Yeah I know and I agree. But some like those I mention do not give that prestige. Basically if you are looking for a 2 door non-luxury performance coupe...there it is. I would save up for the SS, too, but people have bought every single car on that list, some in volume.
