05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
Time to scrap it.
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
I went from like March to August with no code. Probably will go back to more frequent as the weather cools off again. Nothing I've seen so far should prevent emissions based on how long between codes.
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
Still out. As I've been saying this should be more than enough time to ready everything to pass an OBD-II test.
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
You only need about 20 min on a cold start to get 4/6 ready which is enough to pass OBD-II in RI.kevm14 wrote:Still out. As I've been saying this should be more than enough time to ready everything to pass an OBD-II test.
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
Yeah that's funny.
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
20 minutes on a GM, that is. You'll probably actually get 5/6 with only EVAP not set either requiring an extended test drive or multiple drive cycles.kevm14 wrote:Yeah that's funny.

Light came on this morning on the way to soccer. 47F outside....didn't scan yet but probably this code.
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
Yeah, that was it. Reset again.
Re: 05 STS P0430 (bank 2 cat efficiency)
Oof. Only made it 1 week. Came on last night. Reset this morning. I found it much faster to use the generic tool. I think this might happen all winter...
I had a theory a while back that the new thermostat may actually increase the frequency of this issue, because the coolant warms up faster, which means it can run the test sooner, but I'm not sure the coolant warming up faster directly translates to the cat warming up faster.
I wonder if there is something I can do to help increase cat efficiency. Back in the day I experimented with Fuel Power and if I recall that product claimed to actually clean cats and improve emissions.
Probably wouldn't hurt to start with a Techron treatment.

Dumped in 2 bottles of Techron concentrate.
