This looks good. AWD mandatory is interesting, but probably not bad.

Obvious questions -
Will there be a V?
And what would that have?
If no V, why not just call this the V?
The new engine also will be available on non–V-Sport models, where it will have 500 horsepower and 553 lb-ft.
Is this the 4.2 without turbos?

Why isn't there a GN with this powerplant!!!

Both have turbos. You can tell because 553 lb-ft. The LSA had 551 lb-ft and that was a supercharged 6.2L V8...

To follow up with that, the V-sport version is estimated to have 550 hp (which means it will be a little more) and 627 lb-ft of torque. That is the same HP as the CTS-V LSA and actually 76 more lb-ft. And this is not even a V.

I expect a full V engine will have more exotic specs than this. The V-sport (and especially base) 4.2L has pretty mundane RPM ranges. I would expect a full V engine to do what the best German engines are doing these days, even with turbos: refined, but strong performance up to like 7,000 rpm and still a very aggressive sound. The V-sport won't do these things, so be prepared for that. It'll sound alright and be very refined at least.

I looked back at some of the engine rumor discussion we had.

If you read it it kind of sounds like the LT7 is the twin turbo 4.2L but I don't think it is. The 4.2L actually doesn't even have a proper RPO designation which kind of supports my supposition.

Meant to reply to this earlier.

This is a Cadillac bespoke engine. With the Northstar, it took a good 11 years for it to appear in the Pontiac Bonneville GXP.

You COULD try to count the "baby Northstar" 4.0 that was used in the Aurora but I would disagree with that. That engine had 250hp at a time when GM's own very humble supercharged 3.8 V6 had 240 (and 20 lb-ft more torque) so I wouldn't say the Aurora got the full flagship engine treatment.

I thought they didn't put the Deathstar in other cars because they wanted them to actually go passed 100K miles. LOL I get your point though.

Performance predictions:
For the high output version, a top speed of 200mph in 9th gear @5600rpm {245/40 20 front, 285/35 20 rear, would be my preliminary estimate for tires}

1/4 mile ceiling of 12@120, floor of 13@115.

Low output: 190mph@5300rpm in 9th. 1/4 mile of 12.5@115 to 13.5@110 {245/45 19 front, 275/40 19}
These are reasonable.

My own predictions:
With the AWD I think a 12.0 @ 116-117 is where the V-sport will land.
For the regular (also AWD), maybe 12.8 @ 111-113.
