Also having two versions at launch, with the more powerful one given a 10% power boost is exactly how the original Northstar launched. 26 years ago (man).

I think Bill will agree 100% with this one:
I'm sure this engine will find other uses than in Cadillacs. But I'm still happy GM's spending lots of money integrating such a motor into a Cadillac car in view of very disappointing sales and generally mixed press reviews. Many other car makers would have either pulled back or minimized funding after the sales and reviews. I also always believed GM should've focused first on the biggest cars first then worked down, than the other way around. Tesla started their big production with the Model S, and now the image is good enough that less affluent customers want a mini-version seen as the 3. Long ago, the nice S/E class MB laid the groundwork for a compact version called the C-class. And Cadillac's are anyways better known for their bigger cars, so that would've been the best place to start their renaissance

I agree with most of it. The jury is still out on Cadillac having their own engine. After the Deathstar, this engine better be bulletproof to justify it's existence. I am not saying it isn't, I am just saying to have a bespoke motor with exceptionally worse reliability is a huge black eye that I would think they would not want to relive.

I do agree in investing the money though as I think that is the only way they will ever be looked at with prestige in mind. Also having a large flagship with something special is important.

It is now the CT6-V.
Despite the new name, the Cadillac CT6-V will make the same 550 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque that the CT6 V-Sport debuted with earlier this year. This power comes from a hand-built 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 that GM calls the Blackwing. It produces significantly less power than another full V-Series model, the not-long-for-this-world CTS-V, which is rated at 640 hp and 630 lb-ft.

"Beginning with the debut of the CTS-V Sedan in 2004, the V-Series sub-brand sparked new life into Cadillac," said Mark Reuss, executive vice president and president of GM Global Automotive Group and Cadillac, in a release. "As a result of the overwhelming response the CT6 V-Sport received when revealed in early 2018, we've decided to formally make it a V-Series, signaling the expansion of V-Series."

GM also announced that CT6 Platinum models will get a version of the 4.2-liter engine, which was previously said to be exclusive to the V-Sport. The engine will be detuned to 500 hp and 553 lb-ft in the Platinum trim, however.
The CT6-V basically is what my STS would be in my dreams, bigger, faster, better, nicer, all that. Not sure when it would be come affordable as a daily driver for me...

The fact that they branded it a V and not a V-sport may have just hurt your chances of the resale tanking :)

Not really. The V experiences depreciation just fine, too.

The bad news here is a more powerful version was probably planned (I thought there was a rumored bigger displacement version of this engine or something) that isn't happening anymore??? I kind of remember talking about "If this is not a V, what more powerful version is coming as the real V".

Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen had planned to expand the V-Series to enhance the brand's image as a maker of sporty cars. Whether his replacement, Steve Carlisle, is following that plan or charting his own course, we don't know. But this announcement does alter a product built on de Nysschen's watch, even if it only changes a badge
Maybe the replacement decided Johan was spending too much money having a V-Sport and a V version, or, he decided that this would not get Johan's real V version...

BREAKING NEWS!! I found this myself shockingly.

Pre-orders start now. Base price: $88,790. That seems about right actually.

Get ready to sample Cadillac’s all-new high-performance sedan. In the shadow of major performance-car debuts at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, the automaker announced that a preorder program for its CT6-V is now open. You’d better act fast, however, because only 275 are slated for production in the United States
Didn't I joke that they'd make like 300 of these damn unicorns? I would accept if demand was insane and they had to make several times that (which would still be a small number but give me actual hope of ever owning one).
