07 S550: GPS time issue

Post by kevm14 »

My clock and date were way off when I bought the car. I was able to set them with no problem but it appears this car is afflicted with the same GPS time rollover issue as my STS was!

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w221 ... ues-2.html

The fix is the same. Just burn the updated firmware to a CD and load it into the system. I guess I'll put this on the list.

Code: Select all

PS D:\Users\Kevin\OneDrive\Documents\NTG_3_GPS_DATE_TIME_FIX> certutil -hashfile .\W221_COMAND_GPS_UPDATECD_ALL_HU_V1.iso MD5
MD5 hash of .\W221_COMAND_GPS_UPDATECD_ALL_HU_V1.iso:
d316983fcc0a9e3d8090959524c80f2b
CertUtil: -hashfile command completed successfully.
PS D:\Users\Kevin\OneDrive\Documents\NTG_3_GPS_DATE_TIME_FIX>
Matches.
before trying again I would check your comand menus to see if the sat nav has the menu for the Birdseye mapping. the author of the file mentions he thinks the "clock patch" may not load if the car telematics ring is running old software.

you may need to update the car then apply the clock fix. The interesting point here is Merc adopted the fix so ought to make a new all in one update disc (but I doubt they did). NOTE: Telematics update (on pre 2008 MY cars) done by the dealer turns off the AC pump and they need to go back in and tick a box to re enable after the update
Sigh. I better check that.

Good news. I was looking for these menus and couldn't find them. Now I know how. Also, it has the bird's eye mode (which I wanted to use).

I resurrected the VAIO just so I could get access to a CD burner. Just like when I did the STS nav update.

Not pictured is the date still incorrect as 2003. Clearly hasn't been updated.

Got into engineering menu no problem. Turn display off. Press right on the COMAND wheel, press massage/lumbar and mute all at the same time.

Anyway it took like 10 seconds after initiating update. I power cycled the car and the date is now correct!

Yay! Not bad for like day 3 of ownership right? Must have been all that valuable STS training.

Bad news: It actually didn't work. Well it said it worked successfully but apparently it is supposed to take like 7 minutes. And the version should be 423. Mine is still 422. Also, the date is wrong again. It could be that my telematics software needs to be updated first.

Do I have Star yet? Maybe before I pay the dealer I should just put the money into a Star system so I can help myself with stuff like this.

Good news: a very enterprising forum member worked on this and we figured out I have a number that isn't listed as one of the supported numbers. So he manually edited the various config files in the image to add my number and made a new ISO. I burned it and the update worked!! Wow.

Now shows correct 423 number in upper right signifying the update worked. Plus it also shows the correct GPS date now. Before it said like 2002 or something.
