Re: FCA Shifter Recall

Look at reality TV.

Look at who is running for president.

People are terrible and those in the western world are better than most.

They need to want to improve. Most think they are splendid special snowflakes as is...

And now I am sad.

Re: FCA Shifter Recall

People have not changed. We all still have limited attention budgets and sometimes spend them on insignificant things. I would argue that people have become no safer, just that technology has better compensated for our short comings and spared many of us from early death. Darwin probably disapproves.

Re: FCA Shifter Recall

The new shifter violates the "push the shifter up till it stops" feedback the car gives to signal it's in park. We can blame "stupid people" all day, but expecting our special design succeed even though it runs counter to decades of conditioning by every other car out there... We...

Re: FCA Shifter Recall

Intuitiveness of design should never get in the way of cool points. I mean we all know engineers never make mistakes, never do things that are dumb, and never designed something that technically is good but from a human machine interface standpoint is absolutely horrific.

Brake job lessons learned / questions

I decided that my long history of attempting to kill my entire family through laziness had come to an end. Said another way, I finally got around to doing pads and rotors on our 2009 Rav 4 and 2011 Ford Fusion. Pad wear in the Ford was a bit extreme (in the rear i had brake shoes only). And in the R...

New use for a Tivo-disabled TivoHD

I was crushed, Tivo decided that my old hardware was too old and disabled pretty much all DVR features... Did i say crushed? I meant pissed. That is, i was pissed till i found a way to repurpose the hardware into a meaningful project. The TivoHD in question IMG_20160406_172336.jpg A major obstacle.....

I am willing to agree that all beer with the exception of most of the American Adjunct Lager segment is good.
