Re: Whining from the back

I recommend trying to bring everything in the car to the same ground plane. Meaning you may have to add grounds to the body. The head unit and amp should be equivalently grounded. Try disconnecting the signal into the amp and see what that does. As you alluded, the answers to each diagnostic stage t...

Re: Engine Swaps

My first thought is the LT1 isn't optimal, not due to power, but weight. The aluminum blocks seem like a better fit (they did make an Al block LT1). But I wonder what the actual difference is. It's probably a very workable solution, even if you have to upgrade the front springs. That old Volvo 4 cyl...

Maxima brake light

It was actually low on fluid. Well, the level was above the min, but I disconnected the low fluid switch and the light went out. I cleaned it thinking the harness was bad (but disconnecting turns the light off so a bad harness wouldn't turn on the brake light). Anyway, I added a bit of fluid and it ...

Maxima cooling saga

This one is funny because there were no noticeable external symptoms. But a deeper look proved otherwise. The temp was behaving oddly after I replaced the radiator and thermostat months ago. Main symptoms were temps that pretty much stayed above 200°F and a cold lower radiator hose. If I disconnecte...

Re: Maxima exhaust saga

Don't have time for a full post, but I installed the flex pipe. The OEM Y-pipe has quite thick walls. S7302405.JPG The flex pipe was quite shot. S7302404.JPG Fitting it up. I cut the cat side of the Y-pipe three times total. The engine side I just cut flush with the weld on the old flex pipe. S73024...

Re: Maxima exhaust saga

I measured the Y-pipe on the car using a ziptie. I wrapped the ziptie around the pipe, then marked with a sharpie where it started to overlap (circumference measurement). That came out to about 6-3/16. Divide by Pi and that comes out to about a 1.97" outer diameter. Which is why I ordered a 2&q...

Re: Maxima exhaust saga

New 2" flex pipe and band clamps. One thing I am concerned about is the Y-pipe is not perfectly round. It has a weird hump on part of the circumference. So I may have to use some heat in combination with my pipe expander and a BFH. This flex pipe has to slip over that pipe. WP_001044.jpg I also...
