Forum backups

Post by admin_repair »

I use the phpBB admin control panel to do these manually. I can select all tables in the DB and back them up to a tar that sits on the server as a single file. I can even elect to directly download the file so it is off-server if I want to. I can also restore from that interface.

If I want to kick off a cron job on the server side to do this, I think I need to find the script that phpBB runs and just execute it using switches that I guess would normally come from the web front end. Shouldn't be that hard although it will require some poking around. Maybe manual backups are fine if I run them monthly. Also I need to upgrade the forum software again (minor release). There is a major 3.1 release that has a less automatic upgrade path that I should also look into.

Yeah, the mobile view of the later version of the forum software would be nice for those of us whose phones aren't 6".
