Daylight Saving Time

Post by kevm14 »

Make sure you go into your User Control Panel and turn DST off to display the correct time. There is a modification out there where you can choose your nearest city and the board will automatically set DST for you. But I'm not dealing with that right now.

If you have your clock set to sync to internet time this shouldn't be an issue.

Users could be all over the world. This is actually complex and short of knowing where you live there is no reliable automatic way to set the time.

I'm sure most people know where they live.

Also, DST is stupid. Having each local time zone be a fixed offset from UTC all year makes more sense.

I meant the system knowing where the user lives. Then it can attempt to manage the local DST situation for each time zone case. It's not standardized across the globe so the next best thing is make the user set it. It's one click into the UCP, then select Board Preferences, and then one radio button for DST on or off. Pretty simple.

The system should know where the user lives because the user would have already told it that. Otherwise the clock would have been wrong the while time.

Yeah I guess. The system knows you are EST (UTC-5) and you manually select DST on or off. I suppose it could "know" about EST and the DST rules and apply them accordingly. Except I'm not sure all time zones even have the exact same DST rules.

DST rules vary by time zone. You have probably noticed Windows Update gives you a time zone update every 6 months or so. That's because various countries change the rules all the time. DST is stupid.
