Don't know if I posted this before but I found a service manual for my Eaton hydro.

I found it here: https://www.toro.com/getpub/6889

But also attached for safe keeping. I wanted to see if I could figure out how to do the fluid change. Hopefully I can get to the plugs on the top and bottom. If so I am home free. I know the large plastic reservoir body is easily accessible.

The last page has even more info on oil types.

Yet another source: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/val ... -detergent
Valvoline Non-Detergent Motor Oil is specially designed for equipment specifying a non-detergent formulation. Meets or exceeds requirements for air compressors, hydraulic systems, racine vane pump, Denison HF-2, Vickers I-2865, ISO 100 Antiwear Hydraulic Fluid.
Pretty clearly barking up the right tree here.

Looked at it. Why, that's a plug on top. Didn't realize it was going to be an allen head. Provided I can find the bottom one and these aren't seized this should be easy. The reason I need to open the top one is while filling to let the air bleed out, or else I think I read that it takes for-ev-er to fill. Obviously the bottom one is for draining.

One of my allen sockets fits it perfectly, as well.

I tested my engine hour meter. It just counts run time. It does not count engine revolutions. I tested it at around 1750 rpm for 5 minutes and then tested it for 5 minutes at 2800 rpm (about twice). It registered 5 minutes both times. Good to know.

After confusing myself I have confirmed it is an Eaton model 7. Phew.

I think the next project on the hydro is to tighten up the linkage between the speed control lever and the transmission. And I think it may amount to some drilling and selection of right-sized brass bushings that I can lightly press into the appropriate lever holes. I believe this will cure any jerkiness I am experiencing. Just need to see what is out there for bushings. Not sure if Ace or TSC would have something on the shelf with the right inside diameter to match the rod linkage (which I would bring to the store). That is the critical dimension to match. Then for the outside, I would just drill to fit. Sounds simple....I'm sure there will be complications but it seems like a sound idea.

Saving front tire link here. These are supposed to have bearings.

Ordered some of these babies to fix my jerky hydro issue on the Deutz, as I think about winter duty.

FF-519-2 | Oil Impregnated Bronze Flanged | 3/8 ID x 1/2 OD x 1/2 OAL x 3/4 FLOD
FF-520-10 | Oil Impregnated Bronze Flanged | 3/8 ID x 1/2 OD x 3/8 OAL x 5/8 FLO
FF-520-5 | Oil Impregnated Bronze Flanged | 3/8 ID x 1/2 OD x 1/2 OAL x 5/8 FLOD

https://www.bronzebushings.com/

Did some measuring and came up with these options. Will select the best fit. Rod is 3/8", so 3/8" ID of bushing. OD of bushing is set at 1/2" so I'll have to drill both plates that the rod goes through to 1/2". Then I split between a 3/8" long one and 1/2" long ones. The 3/8" one will require a few washers or a thick washer to take up a little of the slack. The 1/2" is a bit on the long side and I got two different flange ODs with that one. The 3/4" matches the existing washers best. But also comes with a 3/32" flange thickness (the rest are 1/16"). So, I have options. The minimum order was $20 so that also helped justify the assortment. $34 for all that though obviously if I was able to order (and know) the exact bushings I wanted it could have been much cheaper.

Ended up just adding some washers and that tightened the linkage up quite a bit. I'll save the bushings for another time.

Problem is it still jerks at low speeds and I think the issue is just what I originally thought. The rubber chains and slop in the diff makes it stop and start but only at very slow speeds. I'd like to think it has improved with the tightened linkage but not sure. I may also drop the tire pressure a bit so it doesn't have to climb and fall on each rubber piece as much. If I recall the rears are over inflated from when I was originally setting up the Terra-Grips. It's also possible that my liquid ballast is splashing around inside the tire during these conditions. Hopefully pulling a few psi out of the tires will make them roll a little smoother on the Terra-grips.

Deutz axle/diff took about 7 pumps before it started flowing from the fill hole.

Finally decided to change the fluid on the Simplicity and the diff was BONE DRY. That's awful. Filled it, drove around a bit, drained it, and refilled it. It takes something under a quart. Maybe 28 oz?

I guess these are pretty tough considering what I've done with it over the past ~5 years....
