Snow shovel repair

Post by kevm14 »

Pretty boring. But I took pics to make it (slightly) more interesting.

The old plastic handle snapped right at the end of the wooden part. But the bottom part was still attached with the screw in it. I removed the screw but it was still on there. Glue. So I grabbed a wood chisel and a rubber mallet and gave it two well placed raps to finish the crack it had developed. That worked and I was able to pull it off.

To install the new handle I used some Gorilla Glue, twisted it on (it fit perfectly) and reinstalled the screw. I had to wipe it down since the glue dripped (or I used too much).

Here's the whole shovel (full frontal). Remember, this shovel actually came with my house (and wasn't new then). 7+ years ago.

Since I wasn't sure if the handle replacement would fit, I splurged and also bought a replacement shovel. It's exactly like the one I had before basically.

I got everything at Ace.

Replacement handle: $7.99
New shovel: $13.99

I could have returned the new shovel but it might be good to have an extra one around.
