Exterior light

Post by kevm14 »

I decided to refresh my exterior porch light after I did my front door.

Here is the old light with the new door.

I think it would be more dramatic to show the old everything (including prior to painting the shutters), so here is that. It's not the best but you get the idea.

Of course that was before I took a whack at the landscaping, again. It's a work in progress.

I guess I should at least gloss over the light installation. It was pretty straight forward. To make a flat mounting surface, you get out of those stepped hexagonal blocks (plastic) that has the right depth for your particular siding. I forget what mine was but they come in different depths. That just screws on, and it makes a sort of electrical box behind it (the wires come through holes). Then wire it up and mount the light to the plate. Not too complicated. Finish off with caulk on all sides except the bottom edge (drainage).

Don't forget to shut off the circuit breaker. Have fun figuring out which breaker does the porch light. It probably isn't labeled as such so you'll have to guess by proximity.
