04 E55 AMG: Airmatic visit workshop

It's pronounced "chassy." Brakes, suspension...things that make the car fun or a death trap

04 E55 AMG: Airmatic visit workshop

Post by kevm14 »

I have seen this before, but pretty infrequently. Always goes away. It went away this time, too. I get the picture of a vehicle with an up arrow which refers to the Airmatic system and the Visit Workshop! message appears.

It happened while sitting in traffic and it seems like that's always when it appears. I also noticed that it felt like the damping system set itself to full stiff (Sport 2) even though it didn't indicate as such. But man it sure rode like hell. I got to my destination and when I restarted the message did not appear and the ride was normal. But, I'm about to go on a long-ass road trip so....I should fix this.

Finally scanned it and got these codes.

So I ordered a level sensor from FCP Euro.

$78 after I did the non-free shipping option to get it quicker. Unlike the STS, all sensor locations are the same part number which is nice. WIS says to recalibrate the ride height after doing a front sensor. I assume I need Star for that so that sucks. But, I can shim the sensor so hopefully I can get it in range and back to the right ride height. Or it'll be fine out of the box?

Jesus I can't read. I just posted this to the MB forum and took another look at the codes. It CLEARLY says "Acceleration sensor." My dumb brain translated to that to ride height for some unknown reason. It even says B24/4 in the code which in WIS positively confirms that it is the right front G sensor next to the strut.

I went to my usual online dealer out of NY and their price was $115.70. List is $149. Called my local dealer in Warwick and they actually stock it but it's like $160. I'm like....can you match the price? She says no, but we have an online site and the price should be competitive. Just do local pickup. I had no idea. I went there and shockingly their online price is $105.02. So $10 cheaper and they have it in stock (and no shipping). This is amazing. Ordered.

The other cool thing is this is even easier to replace than the ride height sensor. Open hood, unplug electrical connector, remove 2 bolts, remove sensor. That's it. No calibration needed, either. So excited.
