213.7 gallons. Price: a ridiculously low $1.60/gal.
So $342 for hot water for almost 7 months and heat since October. The double win here is that oil is cheap AND it's been mild, so usage is less, too.
Also I still need to have that RISE insulation and air sealing work done. When the heat is on, the basement seems to be the same temperature as the main floors.
Oil use
Re: Oil use from April to December
Oil use from Dec 19th to Feb 9th:
250.1 gallons
$1.55/gal
Total: $387.66
34 gallons/week average or 149 gal/month average in those 7 weeks. According to the website, it should have been $1.47 (discounted rate). Hmm.
Still would like to do that insulation work. Also found some window and door drafts that I need to see if I can fix.
Update: I called. The adjusted rate at the 250-299 gallon range is $1.47. They had some kind of system issue which prevented the drivers from having the right rate tiers with them so the invoice says $1.55. She said they will adjust the rate and bill my card at $1.47 (and would have done it even if I didn't call). So total price is actually $367.65. Yay.
Another perspective: Oil cost from April 2015 to today was about $710.

Re: Oil use from April to December
Hoping to last until April 29th when I will fill again. That will give an actual 1 year oil cost. Granted prices are way low and it was warm.
Re: Oil use from April to December
Almost down to 1/4 tank so I had to order. It'll be 4 weeks short of a full year but since April will probably be mild, I can probably still estimate my annual use pretty closely. I'll know better on Friday when they fill it again. Last fill was Feb 9th.
Re: Oil use
Oil use from 2/11/16 to 3/31/16: 190.7 gallons.
Oil use from 4/29/15 to 3/31/16 (11 months): 214 + 250 + 190.7 = 847.7 gallons. Total cost: $342 + $367.65 + $314.66 = $1024.31. The month of April should be well under $100 so call it an even $1,100 for the year.
Sucks that it was $1.65/gal. I thought it would have been closer to $1.40. Oh well.

Oil use from 3/31/16 to 10/18/16: 174.7 gallons.
Total cost from 4/29/15 through today (17.5 months): $1,364.98, or averaging about $78/mo.
Latest price: $1.95/gal. Highest price yet since living here.

Re: Oil use
Prices have creeped up. I use Patriot oil. They are usually on the low side for prices.
I use this as a gauge even though Patriot isn't listed on here. They are always at the low end of this spectrum. It looks like what you paid is in the ballpark.

Total cost from 4/29/15 through today: $1,833.20, or averaging about $94/mo. This is in the same range of what I paid to heat my previous 1,080 sq ft ranch on natural gas.
Paid $2.05 which is again another high since moving here. This is exactly why I wish I could have done the insulation work when it was quoted.
Re: Oil use
Oil use from 12/23/16 to 2/7/17: 243.7 gallons (damn, I let that run low). Fun math: that averages a little over 5 gallons per day.kevm14 wrote:Oil use from 10/19/16 to 12/23/16: 228.4 gallons.

Paid $2.04 though the website says it should have been $1.99 at the volume I bought. Maybe I'll call and old lady them to death.
EDIT: I called. Driver just didn't have the latest pricing sheet. I will be billed at the correct $1.99. Updated figures above.

Paid $2.00. Their prices change every 50 gallons basically (around 2 cents/gal) but at the 200 gal mark it decreases 4 cents. And again at the 300 gallon mark it decreases another 4 cents. The sweet spot for me, then, is the 200 gallon mark. I did not achieve that this time though I wasn't really trying to - I also didn't know exactly when they'd come when I ordered it and I think I was lower than is safe last time.
