3300? I think that is a 90° Buick V6 if I am not mistaken. Or, Olds. I think they had around 160 hp. Decent engine but I'm surprised someone would have done a 90°. Also those seats look great.billgiacheri wrote:http://providence.craigslist.org/cto/5847528652.html - Conversion??? If this works it is probably pretty quick...

I learned that the L67 was not standard until 98.

Re: Replacement Wintah Beatah
Fun fact: the last gen Riviera is a G-body.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_Riv ... .931999.29
It shares a platform with the Aurora and Park Ave and is very related to the Seville of the time. It was a good platform for the time advertising a 25Hz torsional rigidity (famously). Not light but at least still under 2 tons. And the torque delivery of the L67 means they drive really nicely.

The G-body had an extremely resilient structure. For its time, the G-body was one of the strongest unibody car frames in production (25 Hz). This fact did not go untouted as GM literature made much of the need to use a 'frame crusher' designed to test heavy-duty truck frames to finally break the G-body structure in their crush-to-failure procedures. Vehicles built on the G platform are also noted for having belt-in-seat style seat belts like the mid-size GMT360 SUVs.[citation needed] The G-body also featured four-wheel independent suspension with a MacPherson strut style front suspension and a semi-trailing arm style rear suspension that utilized aluminum control arms. All-new aluminum control arms were introduced for the front suspension for 1998.[citation needed] The handling was further enhanced with standard front and rear stabilizer bars and lateral links in the rear suspension to further control wheel toe.[citation needed]

That is what I was thinking.billgiacheri wrote:

Damn that is a real survivor. Hopefully it doesn't end up at the junkyard. This is the kind of thing that would make an interesting LS swap candidate as long as you did it Sloppy style, not car-show style.
Re: Replacement Wintah Beatah
I think the 3300 is actually a newer 60 degree, basically the next gen from the 3.1. I posted this stuff in the Z24 upgrade thread. It should be a direct bolt in from the 2.8 that was in it and is a popular swap, unless I am thinking of a totally different engine platform.
- edit - I was wrong and thinking of the 3400. This car most likely has the 3400 and not a 3300.

Re: Replacement Wintah Beatah
Maybe the Delta 88 would be a better start as it appears cleaner but still pretty cheap.
Re: Replacement Wintah Beatah
Yeah check out the wiki. It is basically a smaller 3800 so 90°. Any of those are better engines than the 60° stuff for the most part.billgiacheri wrote:I think the 3300 is actually a newer 60 degree, basically the next gen from the 3.1. The only car I drove with the 3300 was an early 90s Olds Ciera w/ FE3. That was probably one of the best driving A-bodies of the time period. The engine was responsive and the handling reminded me of what an F41 B-body would have driven like. I think it had 225k and it took a flogging just fine.

Reason: I said W-body and meant A-body.

Re: Replacement Wintah Beatah
See my above edit. 3400 swaps are popular in the Fiero.
Re: Replacement Wintah Beatah
Yeah. It's confusing. Most people have no idea what the 3300 is. There was also a 3.0L of the same lineage.
