New vs old lawn tractors

Obviously this guy is a big redneck but I think he makes a lot of sense. And the gist is, he thinks the older stuff is built better. For engines, he prefers the flat head Briggs engines. He did mention the opposed twin (such as is on my Simplicity) and does like them. They actually made them up to the early 2000s believe it or not. Late 70s design. Or Kohler. And he also said some of the newer, light duty machines with hydrostatic transmissions really can't take any abuse. And some of the later Briggs engines are not great.

In broad conclusion, I think my experience with my 80s Simplicity with Briggs opposed twin and hydro trans seems to reflect what he is saying.
