Apparently there is a difference between so-called "fractional HP" belts and "classic profile" belts. The classic ones are wider and grip more on the sides, and transmit much greater power.
Belts can apparently have the same number but different profiles which is what caused this guy so much heartburn. He was doubly screwed because he was having issues on a shuttle drive transmission which is not understood well by everyone and takes care to adjust properly, so it took a while to realize the transmission itself was functioning fine.
In the attachment I don't actually know if "conventional" is "classic."
