I'm trying to think to my own scenario. I think the inside unit wiring is labeled so I can't screw that up. The L1 and L2 doesn't matter coming into the condenser. I would have expected a plug at the board but it's obviously just wires.

Yes - two identical ring terminals and screws on the board.
