Passed inspection. In 22 minutes.
Received a record number of comments/compliments for whatever reason. Mostly that it is a cool car and looks a lot newer than it is, and is in very good shape.

Re: Mercedes E63S thread
Can't bring myself to buy a whole engine cover just for a Mercedes logo - even I have my limits. But I will attempt a hacky fix.kevm14 wrote: Tue Apr 16, 2024 12:53 pm - I may splurge on a engine cover since my Mercedes logo fell off. How embarrassing. A1570103700. Damn, $319??? https://www.mercedesbenzpartsshop.com/o ... 1570103700
First, I measured it. About 75 mm across. Then I remembered I have a new E55 trunk star that I never installed. Threw that on the cover to check fitment. Too big. Measured 85 mm. Also there is supposed to be maybe a black background or something. I don't know how crafty I feel. But I did buy this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/235839565876
Just has some 3M tape on it. Worse case I clean the cover better and stick it on there. Beats $300 for sure.
Actually this is what it is supposed to look like: Wish I could source this. I'll look around more but at least I have a star coming that I could stick on.

Re: Mercedes E63S thread
M137 engine cover seems to use the same thing but they are all destroyed as well.

Re: Mercedes E63S thread
I guess I didn't document the exact mileage that I bought my E63, but it was somewhere between 98,290 and 97,863. Perhaps call it 98k then.
Has just over 110,000 now. Bought it 3/19/23. 2 years, 2-1/2 months. 12k.
Let me compare to the E55. It's close.
If you start from the day I picked the E55 up to the day I totaled it, that is 2 days LESS than my current E63 ownership. So it's the same. Mileage wise I think the E55 was more around 13k but I need to double check.
The Copart auction said 143,272 and since it couldn't be driven after the accident (on the road), I would say that was the number. So I guess 13,xxx miles.
Also keep in mind I did take a ~2,100 mile trip to NC in the E55. More TW back then though.

Re: Mercedes E63S thread
A/C sticker was falling apart and finally fell off as I wiped down the engine bay after washing it last weekend. Fortunately I could still make out the P/N and ordered it. $16. A2128170120

I looked in EPC and didn't see anything else for my VIN so the extra slots must be for other markets.
Very satisfying.
Some kinda headlight adjustment sticker. Need two. A0005842703. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Mercedes E63S thread
Slightly too large. If I could find a suitable mesh to go underneath that would probably solve it.

Re: Mercedes E63S thread
I don't know where to put this so I'll put it here.
After driving the E400 a couple days ago and really liking it, I did some thinking and discussing. I could easily daily drive that E400 but I don't know that I want to replace my S550 with an E-class. The second row was minimally acceptable. Granted I don't sit back there but I don't like driving smaller vehicles. It's just my thing.
Add to this the fact that I still would like an S65 someday (W221 or W222), it gets more complicated. I do like daily driving my S550 but if I want an S65 in my fleet, that leaves me with no choice but to daily drive something that's NOT an S-class. I don't really want two S classes or two E classes, even though AMG to non-AMG are pretty different in feel and character.
It's not that I don't like my E63 and S550, but I have a very strong desire for an S65, and everything ends up revolving around that. So if I want an S65 someday, that probably means my other vehicle would be like a W213 E400, E450 or E43 with the M276 and 9G. More discount options include a W212 E400 or even 2014 E550. Obviously this requires me to sell two cars and buy two cars so it's going to be a long game to get there. But this may be what I actually want. Right now I have the opposite: AMG E-class and regular S-class. I would be moving to an AMG S-class and regular E-class. Right now this is my thinking. You could certainly argue that it makes more sense to have the midsize sedan as the high performance car and the large car as the lower performing car. Sure, on paper. But there is no E65. I want an S65. There is nothing else like it (Audi and BMW fans, avert your eyes) and that shapes what the other car should be.
One issue with this plan is I am describing probably $60k worth of cars (or more) and right now I'm probably sitting on half that, roughly.
I do think this is a better plan than putting the $60k into a single S65 and just trying to daily that. I like having two good cars, but one as a daily or year round car and one as the special car that I can drive as much as I want during fair weather. Almost 25 years of car ownership has allowed me to converge on this. Less is too few, and more is too many. I don't count the truck as I like having a beater truck around. And I assess minimal overhead and equity sitting in the truck so it is not holding anything up to have it in my driveway and available for use. I also don't count Jamie's car because I never drive it, and she needs a car. Accounting for the total fleet, I find that having four is practical. Again, I don't think I'd want fewer and I don't think I'd want more. The cars I put 95% of my mileage on are my E63 and S550 and that's the way it will be in the future most likely.
With Ian driving in 3 years or whatever, I guess my fleet will surge to five. I will have to maintain the Malibu with this in mind.
