GM recall 14405

Post by kevm14 »

I just got this in the mail, to my surprise.

I want to say I've heard of this.

It is pretty obvious GM is going through and clearing out all the skeletons in the closet. Seems like a good thing, I guess. I haven't taken care of the ignition key recall yet, though, because it's stupid. I might do this one though. I wonder if it would get me a new fuel pump and sender. That would be pretty sweet actually.

Guys I wouldn't screw around with this recall. GET IT DONE. My car only has 91k miles on it but the pump burned up a few weeks ago and melted right through INTO THE TANK. My wife was on her way to pick me up and it dumped her on the side of I-95 in heavy traffic, leaking gasoline!

I went through hell to get it fixed before the notice came (today) but it got done. Contact your dealer and get in line ASAP as there's 10,000 cars in this recall...not including the "unintended key rotation" recalls for our cars, Impalas, Malibus and whatever else is going on.

You don't want to do this yourself if you don't have to. You have to drop the driveshaft, exhaust and lower the rear subframe to get the gas tank out to get to the pump...or cut a hole in the floorpan under your rear seat. I don't recommend that as you can cut into the tank if you're not extremely careful.
Well that all sounds like a huge PITA. Sweet.

I got the next letter. Parts are available and I should schedule the repair. I need to do research to see what the repair consists of (parts & labor). I'm really hoping for a new fuel pump but who knows.

The letter says the dealer will replace the "fuel module" and "fuel tank jumper harness."

Actual service time is quoted at 2 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours 50 minutes.

The fuel module may be the entire pump/sending unit assembly...

About $1200 with parts! They had to drop the rear cradle so they could lower the gas tank. I had no choice as this was my Daily Driver and left me while I was at the gas pump..
Sweet.

This was my concern.
My 05 is on the list and I'm not touching it until a lot of these get done.

As a former dealer tech, I can tell you that the shop flunky will be doing all of these and getting paid poorly to do it which means short cuts and hurry up....no thank you. Maybe we can con Luke at Lindsay into doing an exchange program for us....I'd spend $50 bucks for a used module, turn it in to Lindsay for a new one in the box and wait until mine fails to even mess with it...
It's really a shame when you combine the good faith recall (which is probably interpreted as "that lousy car/company") with a shoddy repair, which WOULD be their fault. Talk about perfect storm of bad PR...

A Cadillac Customer Service rep is on the 04-07 CTS-V forum...in late 2014. That's something you wouldn't have seen from the old GM. Then again, any company should easily realize that a good reputation on the internet is a worth while endeavor. But you can't please everyone, so there's that.

Whoa. Awesome!
I started the thread and will disclose my contact within GM. It happens to be my son, Nicholas. He made the news today for his initiative to report the fuel pump problems in our Vs. I am proud of my son for making a difference and like the changes within GM. Ultimately the speak up for safety program will help GM design better cars and safer cars. Here is the article.
