New tires for Ranger

Post by kevm14 »

Kumho Solus KR21 in 215/70-14. T-rated for 118 mph sustained speed runs (a technical impossibility in the Ranger). Tirerack had them for $75/ea + $48.24 shipping. I decided to negotiate at Tire Pros since they could get a set on the truck today. Out the door cost was $445.44.

Tirerack would have been $348.24 shipped + $82.80 + tax for mounting/balancing = $435.18. So an extra $10 to get them today. Reasonable.

I could have ordered them from Discount Tire Direct for $323 shipped, which would have saved $35.50. Meh, I like the service Tire Rack provides (so I would have ordered from there if I wanted to mail order). Actually the idea of Discount Tire Direct kind of chaffs me. They probably get sales from people looking up tires at Tirerack and then buying at Discount Tire Direct. That's bullshit, so I won't support that. Yay consumerism - where finding the cheapest price is only PART of the value equation. Fortunately I think Tire Rack does good business so that's fine.

Turns out my in-law's 02 Park Ave has a set of these. They ride very smooth in that car. These would be a fine set of tires for a Fleetwood.

According to this thread: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?1 ... Big-Buicks

They used to make them in whitewall. Maybe they still do. You could call tirerack.
