Boy that Sierra sure is nice. The Duramax is still the LML (updated for 2011) putting out the same 397hp and 765 lb-ft. And it (and the Allison 1000) is still a very good powertrain. There've been many comparisons over the years and the Duramax/Allison combo pretty much always wins everything (performance empty and towing, fuel economy).

Aside from that these trucks also have class leading road manners. Though if you talk to a Ford guy he'll say it's supposed to ride like shit. Ok...

A glance at wiki reminded me that the stillborn LMK was the Duramax 4500. It was shelved in March 2009. 2009!!!

I think the LML generation is finally back up to speed on the fuel economy. There was a dip in the mid 2000s through several revisions of the Duramax.

We covered over a thousand miles in our 4WD Steel Green Metallic 2500 LT crew cab review unit and were able to achieve an average of 20.9 MPG on the Interstate highway and 16.2 MPG combined, with mixed load conditions
On the return highway run, the Silverado delivered 21.5 miles per gallon, while carrying over 1400 pounds of payload
This basically is LT1 B-body levels of performance and fuel economy when empty and, obviously, way better when towing. That's impressive, considering the power, torque and vehicle weight.
