Sorry about the quality but this is the commercial if you haven't seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i13xhoSWAdg

One of the comments:
The most ironic thing of all is that Toyota has the same stodgy reputation as Buick, that's why they had to make the Scion to try to attract the youth market, which makes this commercial absolutely worthless!

We could do a skit of my car lineup and call it car enthusiast hell. At least the Mazda pretends to be sporty.

Maybe a Mazda skit would be funny also. Like, based on the specs, Mazda isn't the best at anything, but when you drive it, it "feels" like it is, so it wins contests. Like having the 3 and 6 in the 10 Best. Yet the Accord V6 is faster than the 6, and the Civic Si is faster... Don't get me wrong, the 3 is nice looking inside, and pretends to be quick, but it isn't.

I also wonder about the Miata they are so awesome and popular, but I think I have seen 2 in real life, ever. Which is sad, because I really root for Mazda...

Others could be:

unloved early 2000s cars that are quick - Saturn Sky Redline, GTO, Marauder ...

I think we need to do a lot more than reviews though.

What about taking a bland AWD car like the base Impreza and making it just RWD to drop weight, maybe we could do a bunch of stupid things for weight reduction like take the doors off, remove the console etc. and get it to almost be quick, kinda like the stripped Corvette video.

We could do an analysis of decently powered, but extra heavy vehicles that could possible be fun if it was stripped.

I definitely think we have to think outside the box.

Maybe we can get this project to fund my 85 Monte Carlo SS LS swap... (Wait, that isn't really outside the box...)

When we get a real funded show,
we should all get Smart cars and take the seats out and weld golf car seats in them and take the doors off and race them on a golf course.

Maybe we could make one into a mobility chair...

Ok, back to serious show engineering:

Subaru Impreza - 2.5 4 cyl, 5 speed manual:
Specs:
Curb Weight: 2965 lbs
Stock HP: 165

http://www.edmunds.com/subaru/impreza/2 ... res-specs/

Since I can't compare weight of a Subaru RWD to an AWD, I did it with BMW:
http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/02/06/five- ... time-soon/

Difference of 125 Lbs.

Maybe we can strip this down to 2400 lbs and boost HP to 240. That's 10 lbs per HP for a very blah car. And RWD instead of AWD, so Kevin likes it better now.

Other weight reduction things possible:

Remove Radio/speakers, A/C, door windows...

I bet there is a tune to strap a wrx turbo to this - junkyard parts.

So, what does 10 lbs/HP mean?

http://www.autoblog.com/2014/07/02/best ... s-feature/

Under $25,000 – pounds per horsepower
1.2014 Ford Mustang V6 ($22,510) – 11.479
2.2014 Chevrolet Camaro V6 ($23,555) – 11.514
3.2014 Ford Focus ST ($23,625) – 12.790
4.2014 Ford Fiesta ST ($21,400) – 13.807
5.2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec ($21,300) – 13.930
6.2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI 4-Door ($24,995) – 14.152

9.2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata ($23,790) – 14.850
10.2015 Volkswagen Jetta GLI ($24,535) – 14.910

8.2014 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec ($47,400) – 9.883
9.2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec ($29,350) – 10.328
10.2014 Volvo S60 T6 AWD R-Design ($42,700) – 10.855

Under $100,000 – pounds per horsepower
1.2014 Ford Shelby GT500 ($55,110) – 5.808
2.2014 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe ($99,000) – 6.615
3.2014 Chevy Camaro ZL1 ($55,355) – 7.103
4.2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ($53,000) – 7.248
5.2014 Jaguar F-Type S ($92,000)– 7.416

7.2014 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe ($64,900) – 7.585
8.2014 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan ($64,900)– 7.590
9.2014 Porsche 911 Carrera S ($98,900) – 7.688
10.2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S ($99,770)– 7.697

Looks like 8 lbs/HP beats everything under 50K
Under 7 lbs/HP would embarrass people paying up to 100K

2200 lbs at 300HP would be 7.33. That seems like a stretch.

Other options for this ridiculousness are:

The Catera - 3897 lbs per 200 HP = 19.485 lbs/HP - garbage
or
The 2007 AWD fusion 4 cy manual - 3254 lbs per 160 HP = 20.33 - worse than garbage
This is the same 2.3 in the MazdaSpeed3 capable of 250HP stock turbo - 3254/250 = 13 - decent!
There is also the 3.0 6cyl AWD auto: 3577 per 221HP = 16.18 - is the 6 cyl better to add power to?

compared to the Subaru: 2965 lbs per 165HP = 17.96

Fun fact: The L81 engine in the Catera was based on an Opel engine and was installed in other snore-enducing cars such as the Saturn Vue and the Saab 9000. It was also outfitted with a single tiny Garret T15 turbo charger and installed in a Saab 9-5 and called the B308. This is their famous asymmetrically turbocharged V6. Hilariously, this engine was rated at the same power as the N/A version, but with slightly more torque.

I wonder if the Saab manifolds would fit in the Cadillac? FWD vs. RWD layout could be a problem. If you used a larger turbo that could push ~1 bar you could get that entry level Caddy into the 10 lbs/hp club.

Another avenue would be to swap in a 2010+ Camaro V6 for > 50% HP increase.

Hey,
They are parting this out. We should see what they want/make an offer on the rolling chassis.

http://hartford.craigslist.org/ptd/4875289663.html

We don't want the engine or the trans anyway.

This actually looks like it is in good shape, maybe part of the show would be buying this, selling the engine and trans, and buying an LS motor and trans for the same price.

I talked to my friend Jim and he seemed into the idea. He also agreed that some youtube videos to establish the show would be good before trying kickstarter. He is also into cars, and would have good inputs for ideas. If the show took off he could probably transition from filming to a character on the show if it was going to be professionally filmed. He wants me to meet up with him Thursday to talk about it. How serious are we about doing something?
