Since you are comparing them to the cost and performance of the '03-'04 and '07-'09 Camaro?

Maybe its cheating to compare the Ford that they made with the GM that they didn't...

I thought we were talking about Camaros.
Not when that version of the Mustang is more expensive than the highest performance Corvette you can buy that year.

Comparing to what you can get in a Corvette, for example. Or how underwhelming the first gen of the DOHC 4.6 Cobras were compared to regular LS1s. Or that a base Corvette was as fast as the supercharged SVT Cobra of 2003-2004. At least in the latter case, the Mustang WAS cheaper than the Corvette, so those were a good deal for what you got.

Also, they only made the Cobra R in 2000. Which was a year before the Z06 was released.

So my examples are 1 for 3. Not too shabby?

There was a fairly large price discrepancy in 2003

I could only find the 2001 article at Car and Driver. 2003 MSRP was probably similar if only a bit more expensive.

Fail! Car and Driver is sneaky by posting the current car MSRP in the MSRP section of the old car review. Sigh.

Fair enough. But that one is solidly in the category of "cool if you like Mustangs." Like I said, it was MORE expensive than the 2001 Z06 and was inferior in every conceivable way.

From the article text, Cobra was ~$35K while the Corvette was just under ~$50K.

Unless you like no radios and huge wings.
