The thought of someone hooning around in my CTS-V, banging off shifts, does not seem like a good long term plan and I think the small income will be offset by damages. Some types of damage accrue over time and don't necessarily manifest as a catastrophic failure attributable to a single renter.

I don't think I would let someone rent the CTS-V. At 100 a day, you need to rent it 100 times to get what it is worth, without it breaking.
For the Corolla, at 28 a day, 20 times and I am good... LOL

The insurance covers the full value. I'm not worried about it getting totaled. I'm worried about mechanical damages mainly. Which I think are covered but the nature of the damages can be a bit of a gray area.

Ok this sucks.
General Definitions:
•Covered Peril: A covered collision or comprehensive event that takes place during the rental period, excluding:
1.pre-existing damage;
2.interior wear and tear
3.exterior wear and tear for vehicles on the Standard or Basic plans
4.any mechanical failure;
5.any physical damage during the delivery period
6.aftermarket parts, accessories, wraps or decals
7.deterioration
8.any damage that occurs where an owner is in violation of the Terms of Service
9.personal items left in the car; and
10.any of the following, unless there is clear photo documentation less than 24 hours prior to the start of the trip that demonstrates that the damage was caused during the rental period:
- 1.Body Damage: dings, dents, or scratches with diameter less than 6 inches
- 2.Wheels: damage of less than 6 inches
- 3.Lights, turn signals and lamps: damage of up to 1 inch in diameter
Mechanical is flatly not covered. Ugh.
In a way it makes sense, since this is just like regular car insurance. Let me look at the language geared toward renters.

Mechanical or Interior Damage. Furthermore, if during the rental period, there is damage caused to the interior of the vehicle or mechanical damage caused (not normal “wear and tear”), the protections described above do not apply, and the renter will be liable for the full cost of the repairs or replacement, as well as Related Costs.
Related Costs. "Related Costs" may include all costs and fees permitted by law, including but not limited to, estimation or appraisal costs, storage fees, towing fees, repair or replacement costs, registration or transfer taxes, claims processing costs and all similar or associated costs, minus any residual salvage value that is collected. Claims processing costs vary, but are typically up to $500 per claim. If a third party accepts total fault for the claim and that third party’s insurer processes it on behalf of the owner without substantial processing by Turo’s third party claims administrator, the renter will be refunded the claims processing fee.

So the policy is you break it, you buy it. That can be made clear to the renter easily enough.

How is that proven and enforced?

Well it is in the contract they sign. But I see your point...
I think it would require a mature adult renter and I would go over the car with them. I would explain everything and have them understand it is not broken when they rent it. This would not be one of those times to abuse the car, risk returning it broken and hope I don't notice (or try to say it was like that before). There could be a lot of time overhead there. And the theory of the service I think was to rent interesting cars while on travel (business or personal). I don't know how common it would be to get joy ride renters. I would be in favor of a very high daily rental rate to discourage this and discount as early as like 2 or 3 days.
I also wonder if something can be done regarding a security deposit.
Probably talking to someone who rents would go a long way.

Check out the Roadmaster. And check out the reviews!
This car RULES. I would totally rent from Siahei again, he is super chill and accommodating. It's the freaking RODMASTER!!!

I wish I could trust someone with my CTS-V. It's interesting enough and rare enough to get hits I am sure. I just don't know about someone renting it and then proceeding to test it out (like at the limit) the entire rental. Why else would you rent a CTS-V? Unless you are, you know, not a child. It's not a 95 Camaro....

I know what you'll be renting on your next trip to DC. It's cheaper than a government intermediate class rental, right?

Regarding the CTS-V on Turo, I have had similar thoughts about the Elise. I just feel like the risk/reward isn't there, especially when you consider how fragile the Elise is even in a situation like going out of a low driveway, let alone anything they could do to the clutch or transmission. I suppose I could price it sufficiently high to get a better clientele, but I just don't feel like there's a price within reason at which I would be willing to take the risk.
