Not really cheaper.
You can go with the Dorman for half the price:

I cannot stress enough how much I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT.
WK2 145k Service
Re: WK2 145k Service
For fluid if it were mine I'd probably buy this:
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 87&jsn=432
And since that can't be used in the GLS, that solves the "I will just stock one fluid" approach. But even this doesn't seem to be "approved." Sigh.
Even though I understand the temptation to buy this (in theory):
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 87&jsn=426
In reality you will go 3-8 years between transmission services. You are talking about a $41 savings per transmission service which is less than even Paramount+ costs for just one year.
What I WOULD say though is that I would certainly consider the Valvoline product if I had transmission symptoms and a fluid change with the spec stuff didn't help. This may have helped my STS for example (I did have some luck with the additive but I wonder if just Maxlife alone would have gotten a similar result - TCC shudder).
Just like if I had an engine with low oil pressure and short of replacing all the bearings, there is nothing more to do. Well, you can use a heavier oil. But you don't use the heavier oil before you have the oil pressure problem, right? Same thing here.

For some reason RockAuto didn't list that sensor when I browsed by application. Weird.kevm14 wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 1:26 pm https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... x21u75HJ0A

Valvoline MaxLife is what I bought.kevm14 wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 1:39 pm For fluid if it were mine I'd probably buy this:

Re: WK2 145k Service
I know I seem like I'm just "put whatever/wherever for transmission fluid", but I would not have put MaxLife in the old 42RE since no one, including Valvoline, recommended compatibility with Chrysler ATF+4. It's the same reason I didn't use MaxLife in the transfer case that called for ATF+4, even though it was really tempting (in hindsight that one would've been OK since the same transfer case is used w/ Dexron VI in GM applications, but I don't think mixing fluids was a great idea).
I'm not sure what makes me trust Valvoline's recommendations, but I guess I do.
I haven't racked Valvoline MaxLife vs. 236.17 yet, but at least in the Lifeguard 8 comparison I think my conclusion would've been that the viscosities are functionally equivalent. Perhaps except at -40 degC, but I don't know how much that's relevant.

Re: WK2 145k Service
I still haven't ordered a transmission pan - I can't seem to confirm if the Land Rover pans are shallow (BMW-like) or deep (Chrysler-like). There's also a lot of buzz on the internet about the V6 8-speed pan fitting from Chrysler and being 1/3 the cost.
Also on the transfer case encoder - I think I should see if I have any encoder related codes before I drop $120 and hoping for the best.

Also, why is the forum time stamp an hour off from Eastern time? Weird.
Re: WK2 145k Service
I compared 236.14 and 236.15. They have VERY different viscosities. My guess is Maxlife errs toward 236.14 (i.e. thicker). I also assume that 236.17 is of a similarly thin viscosity as 236.15. I did the work in the GLS thread. For ZF, I agree it seems like the viscosities are fairly close.
I did some reading last night. Some Honda people also came out of the woodwork citing shift issues with Maxlife. I think there is definitely a list of applications that, while recommended on the bottle, aren't a good idea. Speaking of ATF+4, I think there is also some overlap between that and 236.10/12 (which I believe .14 replaces but you cannot go any further than that). For whatever reason it does seem like they don't recommend Maxlife for ATF+4, MERCON V and DEXRON VI applications.

That's actually a local user setting. It is in the user control panel. This link MIGHT work for you: ucp.php?sid=b8c54c04de488d13fb67c5cbf0a1a2f1&i=372
