I need to revisit this. I was remembering a combo of my S550 and E63. They both have the centrifuge cover that can leak. The M278 has the vacuum pump. I don't remember if it has cam inspection covers.

Now we know it does. Common issue.

Most common would be centrifuge cover (pass side) and there are two other rear cam inspection covers that are plastic and just snap on. Also take a look at the vacuum pump (driver's side). If the centrifuge cover and cam covers are original they are overdue.
That thing I said.

Wanna look up all of the appropriate idler pulleys and probably a tensioner when you have a chance?

Interesting alternatives.

Continental belt

Litens tensioner. They also have a Continental and Gates. They are all probably acceptable.

Litens pulley, smooth

Litens pulley, grooved

I think the big one on top is not listed.

There seems to be some confusion on the A 611 234 01 93 pulley on one of the diagrams - RockAuto and mercedesbenzpartsshop both think it's not applicable to a 2017 GLS550. Weird.

I'll have to go count pulleys and try to figure whether there's an extra on this list:

I might recall that happening when I ordered pulleys for my E63. You can just call the parts counter to confirm but I didn't have any fitment issues.
