I tried to look last night and will get a pic to confirm but everything looks to be the same 15x6-6 on all of these tractors. There was a smaller size but it doesn't seem to be on any of these three.

Ordered a new grip for the lift lever. Should make things a little more comfortable/ergonomic.

$11.87.

The battery charger indicated fully charged when I got home tonight. I very much jury rugged the cables and had to switch the ground wire to the other side of the frame to match the battery. But it cranked well and fired up. It seemed to need some choke to run. When I tried moving it, the belt was slipping for the trans. But, I did drive it around the driveway and just got it parked before it died. I assume the coil has gotten pretty bad. Also the head lights did not come on, which I will need to fix. Probably just wiring.

Engine sounded pretty good. Need to do the coil I guess next. And get a drive belt. I replaced the drive belt on mine when I bought it. Wonder if it is laying around somewhere...

You can't tell but it's running in this picture.

I believe this belt will work. The spec is 1/2" x 80-1/4 which means....1/2" x 80" I guess. Which is this:
https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/produ ... _vc=-10005

Kevlar and only $18. They probably stock it. I recall it was the mower belt (and thus thrower belt) that I may have had to mail order. I probably have the same belt on my machine and I have had no issues with it at all.

I'll see if I can pick a good quality belt for the thrower and order two of them. I will need that regardless of what machine I use it on. It has a belt but I don't know how good it is.

Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/PowerDrive-16680 ... way&sr=8-7

HA!
Question:
what are the dimensions of this belt? Especially interested in the length.
Answer:
The length is 120 inches and it is one half inch wide. i am using it on an old 5212.5 simplicity for a deck belt. On that type rider the belt can be an inch longer or shorter, the tensioner has no problem making up the difference.

5212.5. Damn right! Kevlar, rated well, $26. Not too bad. Maybe I will just order a couple now...

Holy shit.
"You purchased this item on June 25, 2016."

Wow...…

I probably sprung for the Kevlar because TSC had some nice looking Kevlar belts but not in 120". So I must have hunted down a quality one. Cool. Just ordered 2.

Started right up tonight. Needed half choke for a while but then ran without. Battery appears to be charging, mostly.

I made a couple videos that I will post.

It stayed running and I was able to adjust the idle down a bit. The throttle seems misadjusted or something as most of the travel doesn't change the speed. I will look at that.

There is a metallic clank that goes with the RPM of the engine. I don't know if it is internal or external. Or if I should be worried about it. I may want to change the oil before I run it much more...I think there is plenty of loose stuff bolted to the engine to check before I get too excited.

For the winter it looks like 10W-30 or 5W-30 is recommended down to 0F. Maybe something like this: https://www.chevronlubricants.com/en_us ... 0w-30.html

Or this: https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/product ... -duty.html

Or this: https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/product ... il/t5.html

Point is, I probably shouldn't keep using the 15W-40 that I like in my Simplicity and generator.

I had Ian do a cold start for me.

https://youtu.be/_FSsWt4Tkvg

It seems to run alright. I fiddled with the low speed mixture and tried to find a little better balance between idle mixture and the response to a throttle snap.

Then I tried to adjust the throttle cable which required loosening the hold down bolt that's on the intake manifold. Snapped the bolt off. Went over to the parts machine and managed to back the bolt out without breaking it. But now I have to drill. Great, add that to the list. Also bent the governor stop tab so the full speed sounded right to my ear but I should really get a tach.

There is some moderate blow by on this engine. I should compare to my Simplicity. I think this engine is fairly tired. That said, it will probably run a good while longer and as long as oil consumption isn't ridiculous, and power is adequate, it doesn't really matter that much. I think a reasonable plan would be to use this until I wear it out (IF it wears out), and then I could switch over to my Simplicity for snow. Not really a big deal. That said, I will be spending some money on it as there are certain things I can't stand. I'll try to document that.

Still have not changed the oil. But it has not shut down on me which is interesting. The battery still cranks it, too.

Deutz trivia:
The Deutz-Allis company and name was created when Deutz-Fahr of Germany purchased the Allis-Chalmers company of Milwaukee, WI, USA in 1985.

Deutz-Fahr was owned by Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) at that time. One of the first things KHD did was change the color of almost all tractors, implements and Deutz-Allis Gleaner combines (stripes) to the Deutz-green. Only the larger 8000 and 9000 series tractors remained Allis Persian orange. Deutz engines soon dominated the line-up as well as the tractor designs. A few were merely Deutz-Fahr tractors with the Deutz-Allis name.

Lawn and garden tractors were produced under the Deutz-Allis name by Simplicity, of Port Washington, WI, which was formerly a part of the Allis-Chalmers Corporation. When the name was changed to Agco-Allis, the lawn and garden tractors followed suite.[1]

KHD never did really well in the North American agricultural market, and sold the Deutz-Allis company to some of the management in 1990, which formed the Gleaner-Allis Corporation to buy it. The corporate name was soon changed to AGCO. The Deutz was replaced with AGCO to become AGCO-Allis in 1990/1991.

In South America, Deutz-Allis continued to be owned by Deutz-Fahr until AGCO purchased it, too, in 1996.[2] The Deutz-Allis brand lived on until 2001, when it too was replaced with AGCO-Allis.
Couple interesting things there. First, I had been saying that this machine was somewhere in the 1985-1990 range just based on what my Simplicity is, since this is pretty much my machine with a different brand and paint job. Come to find out it is EXACTLY between 85-90 based on this history (which is kind of weird making this somewhat rare perhaps). Second, now I know what KHD stands for which is painted on the front of the hood: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz.

Engine code indicates manufacture in late Sept 1986. I guess that means the tractor is probably an 87-ish. Now to look at mine.
