Jim also has a project motorcycle that he is already working on, so that could probably be worked into An episode/recurring project.
We should come up with some kind of game plan. We should pick out like the first 3 episodes, and figure out what we need to do them. I really want to do the Catera sleeper but that should be done after we have secured funding so we can do it right. We need to get it to 7 lbs/HP to really gain credibility, so $$$. I bet for 10K we can beat some 100K cars. That would be the episode.
Other things I would be interested in but the angle for the show would have to be figured out:
85 Monte Carlo SS Rat Rod
09 Mazda3 made awesome

My CTS-V could use another 100hp and a lightweight flywheel. Torn between supercharger kit and a cam/headers/cats/tune.
Am I on the wrong thread?

Not the wrong thread.
Episode:
We test the CTS-V against the Caprice as is.
We video the modifications as a "how to".
We retest against the Caprice.

I like the idea of having a budget to create cars with the show... But initially I think we should focus on some episodes that we can do with existing vehicles. I suspect that filming and editing the show will be quite a bit of work.
Once the show is a success, we can finally have interns to wash our cars and perform LS swaps.

I think my friend Jim is interested in filming and editing. Anybody interested in helping edit would also help. He is into photography so he is good with photo editing, movie editing is not a stretch. He is also into cars, and is working on his own bike project so that might be good. Lets come up with a list of "cheap" shows to do first that will be entertaining.
I have to do some work on the Corolla, but I am not sure that will be entertaining. Maybe we could come up with some spin. (Some way to make regular maintenance entertaining)
Planned work in the Spring:
Power Steering fluid change
Coolant change
Valve cover gasket and spark plug change

That was my point. The SC400 also is the closest thing any of us have to a real project vehicle. I have enough vehicles that I could, of course, turn one into a project vehicle...The Maxima needs a clutch so I guess it's already a project. Ed, what's that like?

I think we need to be careful. People's attention span is pretty low.
There is a significant risk that if we come out with an "Episode" that is mediocre at best, or really doesn't get people's attention, we may have failed out of the gate.
I understand the money issue, and the inexperienced videography situation, but if we do just an average build, without adding something that catches people's attention, it could be over. We need to be careful.
It might be worth filming a couple that are moderate, and don't release them right away.

It may not be my cup of tea, but the SC400 is on the Supra platform and instead of doing a 2JZ-GTE swap, we do something with the 1UZ-FE (yes I had to wiki that but at least I showed effort).
Maybe an STS turbo
ECU (probably keep the stock one but add something like a Megasquirt to run the engine & trans)
A much better plan would be salvaging the LT1 powertrain out of the Caprice and putting it in Adam's Monte SS. Or...anything that any of us has wanted to do but otherwise could not summon up the motivation. Adam probably has the most project-accessible things out of all of us, between owning the 94 Caprice, 87 Monte Carlo SS and the 94 SC400 (well, co-own with Ed I guess). My fleet also has some potential.

Can't really fail when releasing free-to-watch videos on Youtube. But, in 2015, the production standards even for a semi-pro video are surprisingly high. You get a dSLR or two, a GoPro or two, a steadicam, be conscious of lighting, and do some whiz-bang editing on the computer, and the bar is high.

If the show is just going to be us fixing our cars, then I have plenty of "episode ideas." I am already planning on pulling the engine on the saab to do the timing cover in the spring.... And maybe even putting it back in. If you want to film stuff like that, that's fine because it's a project I already need to do...
We can see if it really is just us mumbling about where the 13mm box-end went or we truly have some chemistry on air that people would want to see.
The SAAB usually doesn't mind being the brunt of jokes, so there's that.
I guess I kind of assumed that the idea was to have a funny take on the life, interests, and opinions of the "regular car guy." And maybe make a little fun of Non Car People...
If we're trying to get film of some truly interesting cars, then I recommend we scout some interesting forums, and interview those guys and their cars. There are plenty of shitty videos of otherwise awesome and really interesting cars. With swaps already done, and owners that would love to talk about them. And you get a lot more material that way without taking as much time away from the projects we really need to do.
