The SS was a simple product of circumstance. The options were either get the SS as we did, or not get it at all. What I would like them to do is make a CTS-sized Alpha Chevrolet sedan with an LT1 or something, with appropriate measures to decrease price.
The circumstance I mentioned includes fairly low production capability at Holden. Given the exchange rates, I am not sure they would have imported more even if they could have. It is also a rebadged VF Commodore. Spending even more money to change the appearance was also not going to work given the price they were already at. That's what circumstance means.
The reason I still support the SS is because of two simple things: I buy used so the new car MSRP is pretty meaningless, and I like sleepers, so the native VF Commodore styling is fine. A bonus is that they are all loaded so I don't need to comb exhaustively through lower trims to get what I want, just like the V1 and to a slightly lesser extent the V2.
I never said the intention was to inject false rarity. If they really wanted to do that, they would have marketed it heavily and potentially produced a lot more demand than supply (hello GT350R). I think they imported about what they thought they could sell to a niche audience who doesn't need marketing to tell them how good the car is. The heavy discounts simply reflect the fact that the niche market isn't distributed in the exact same pattern as dealer inventory. Not all are discounted if you check.Because you think it is so awesome they want to inject false rarity by not making a lot and pricing them high enough to not sell in quantity? This make no sense to me.
