Repair-It

I don't have a lot of spare time to devote to recreational endeavors and neither do you.

The spare time I do have basically would prohibit me from doing anything other than filming something on my own property, which is basically the conclusion I came to above (i.e. repair vids, or possibly a solo review of my CTS-V or Caprice).

Aligning our spare time, especially for something recreational, is not only difficult but is also a really hard sell in my opinion. I don't feel like having arguments over "but I want to screw around and make vids." It's a dead end.

If we were all sitting in a room for hours a day (outside of work), every day, it would be a totally different scenario. That is not our scenario. Be realistic.

I think the best proposal is we all do whatever by ourselves for a while and see where that leads. We'll all learn something individually. Then maybe we would be in a better position to pool resources and do something bigger.

Let me explain something else in case it is not clear. We have very little support. There are no parents or in laws coming over regularly to watch kids. There is no daycare. Every hour I spend not helping out here is just being an asshole and that's the way it is right now.

I have already accepted the fact that the next time I'll be able to do something that only I want to do will be sometime around the year 2030.

The common story between most of the successful YouTube car review guys is that they're single and have no kids. Had the platform/technology been more advanced when I was in college, I think it would have been something that would have been of interest to me.

Yeah I had the same thought about not being in college anymore.

But being honest I do not have the time to cultivate a successful Youtube channel. It's reality, not an excuse.

That said, I will be thinking in the background next time I devote a little of the time I do have to something: "can I make a youtube vid about this, efficiently?"

This is the most depressing thread ever.

There is actually a topic I would like to explore in a YouTube video: why does the Kia Rondo's yellow line go up to 7500 when it is clearly incapable of reaching that RPM?

It would be funny to title my Caprice review "When is my Caprice gonna die and why isn't it dead yet?"

I replaced a nonfunctional light switch yesterday. It annoyingly failed in the 'on' position in our master bath. It cost me $0.69 for a new one and took about 5 minutes. This definitely checked all the boxes for a satisfying home repair: cheap, fast and easy. I guess I could have made a YouTube video, but there are probably already a lot of them already.

Caprice is still a popular nameplate over there. It might be the place where it is most popular.

I have an observation.

More and more YouTube channels are requesting Patreon donations. I keep noticing this even on my own subscribed channels.

I don't think YouTube pays what it used to.
