You have been happy with daily driving the Caprice all this time and the STS is better in every way. Why is that not acceptable as a replacement.
As far as the B-Body swap. I didn't say anything about 1/4 mile times. Are you saying you can't get a B-Body to handle as good as a CTS-V? I know it can be made faster, so what is the problem? You can have it all, but your way is 5 cars and a lot of money. What I am proposing costs you nothing.
I don't think you need to upgrade the STS for daily driving. It is already way better than your current daily, has more options and better performance. You were gonna daily a Silverado for gods sake. I guess it comes down to whether you think you can make a B-Body better than a CTS-V. Sounds like you have doubts...
Caprice engine swap?
Re: Caprice engine swap?
My way, injecting the 1/2 ton 4WD V8 truck into the mix, is four cars. It's the enabler of that, because:
Caprice offers old school body on frame driving manners, which have their appeal. Any speed is enhanced by the lack of precision in the platform (i.e. muscle car thrills), and while the handling can be impressive, it will never be supple like the CTS-V. It also offers raw passenger room that the CTS-V does not. It is unique in that it offers 90s car amenities and comfort but all of the moddability of a traditional muscle car.
The CTS-V offers a European approach to ride/handling with an American car soul and flair. It is unique and my generation was the first true example of this formula coming together successfully, in a real car (i.e. no AC Cobra stuff). It also offers 2000s luxury amenities (not all of them but many of them).
They are not the same thing and one cannot replace the other.
They are different vehicles with different appeal. Yes I can make the Caprice handle better (and I still can, or would on a future B-body), but the architecture limits what ride/handling compromise is possible.Having this, and a swapped B-Body, would really scratch the performance itch. The B-body provides the hotrod/old school experience, and the unique turbo power delivery and having actually done an LS swap. The CTS-V provides a more modern take on performance, naturally aspirated, with proper handling in a smaller/lighter package. The CTS-V would also be the lone 6-speed manual trans in the fleet. I can see a swapped B-body converting to 4L80-E.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
So how much is it going to cost to add a 1/2 ton, and a swapped B-Body to the fleet, while only selling the Ranger and Caprice? 12K? (4 for the truck, and 8 for the B-Swap) I think those estimates are low. Where is this 12K coming from?
Re: Caprice engine swap?
I guess I am saying keeping the CTS-V and having a B-body enables my future goals. Yes I COULD sell the CTS-V and finance some speed now but I would rather wait to achieve my goals.
The good news for me is that neither a stock B-body or CTS-V is miserable to drive in the meantime.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
I am also saying that I want two RWD, V8 enthusiast vehicles, since they each provide their own appeal and benefits.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
Yeah I didn't mean any LS-swapped receptacle though those are obviously cool. I like B-bodies.

Have you bought a Roadmaster yet?kevm14 wrote:Yeah I didn't mean any LS-swapped receptacle though those are obviously cool. I like B-bodies.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
No. Is that what this thread is for?
Re: Caprice engine swap?
You probably won't want one of these, then:kevm14 wrote:Yeah I didn't mean any LS-swapped receptacle though those are obviously cool. I like B-bodies.
