79 Camaro. That was one of the things I did not subtract out. They were $42 anyway.

In other words, the fuel lines are in the $527 "LS conversion" line item that I've been carrying.

CX Racing turbo. My father in law is running one of their smaller turbos on his truck (I think GT35). Tony nailed it when he explained that these cheap Chinese turbos used to be bad news. Now they are awesome. Cheap but reliable turbos, plus cheap but reliable LS junkyard engines = go 9s on a budget. Have to love it.
CX Racing manifolds and stuff. They had to mess around with it and the whole time I'm like...why didn't you just start with a manifold and make your own Y pipe. Then he said exactly that. Check.
LS6 cam? Glad to see they upgraded from stock, as that is a key to making big power. They could have done better but not bad.
LS9 head gaskets are not required but they ARE cheap and they ARE awesome.
ARP head bolts...the heads are already off, but you could skip these and save some bucks.
The tuner was kind of...not clued in. When they said they had to go to a local shop I was thinking...there may be a learning curve here even though there shouldn't be. And there was. Should have been no struggle with the 2 bar MAP....HP Tuners 2 bar OS and done. I guess he eventually figured it out. I was glad to hear the tuner say keep the timing conservative and keep it rich. BINGO. So that was satisfying.

At the end he was like "I didn't want to do this but it turned out great." It's like, how can you run a dyno shop and not know about turbo LS tunes?

Best part was when Tony was like...next time we will go to the track and run 10s. They could get into the 9s with the 5.3 and that turbo but it may require a cheap meth kit, which is no big deal.

It's not like I've been arguing that this exact thing is totally possible for months now, or anything. If they screwed this up, that would be on them. The plans on how to build this kind of thing are freely and readily available.

I wish motor trend had a JDM division. Modifying japanese cars a bit or restoring them.

Our little dreamboat may have had a few zip ties and or tape holding this or that in place And the driver seat may have needed a few more bolts holding it to the floor. Shawn is a very cool guy and as long as it's "safe" I'm sure he will tune it.

Fair enough. Tuner just wasn't ready for the Sloppy Camaro. But Sloppy builds kick ass and now I'm sure he's singing their praises.

Also, I want to say that I am really starting to like these guys.

It is if you are looking to actually do something useful. Roadkill is better for entertainment, so they both have their place.

Turbo parts list

They could have saved money in these places:
Skip ARP head bolts -$200
Skip LS9 head gaskets -$100
For the same cost as the LS6 cam they could have gotten a much better turbo cam grind and made a lot more power...
Silverado CX Racing turbo kit...could have saved a TON here by following the Sloppy method. They paid over $2100 and still had to hack around with the parts. Big savings potential here. Obviously some of the parts are still needed but probably could save over $1000 here...
Subframe replacement? I guess that depends on the particular car that is used...so -$350.
Throw the body mounts in there at -$75.

Finally hit 10s. Some relevant comments after someone brings up Sloppy Mechanics:

It's like they're trying to teach themselves what Matt learned, and shared with the entire world for free, 5 years ago...

Matt Happel would have built that 5.3, hit high 9's at the track, went home and delivered the new baby, took a nap, then dyno tuned four engines before Tony and Lucky had pulled the blown engine.

Anyway they still replaced too much and went too slow. This can be faster AND cheaper if you know what you are doing. The information is readily available.
