General STS thread
Re: General STS thread
I peeked at the coolant. Looks like it is down 1/8"....that doesn't really tell me anything. I (still) need to give it 2 weeks.
Re: General STS thread
Haven't checked coolant again yet.
But the front end stuff is slowly getting worse, kinda. It almost seems like a creak rather than just a clunk. Getting worse just means it will eventually be easy to diagnose. Between lower control arm bushings, ball joints, and the end link connection to the bar I really have no clue what is going on. I just want to fix it already. It still drives tight most of the time but in some conditions I'll get a creak out of the front end somewhere...
If it's the bar thing I want to get on with Adam's idea which was welding some washers to one or both sides of the bar.
If it's a ball joint or bushing then I'll replace the LCA....and think hard about adding an engine mount (at least the driver's side) to that job since I'll be there...and where is bank 2? That's where my failing cat is...I think all that work makes sense to do at the same time if it comes down to it.

Re: General STS thread
So the GPS thread is evolving. No solution but it is pretty clear a much wider range of vehicles is impacted, at least GM vehicles with a similar period Denso nav system (Tahoe, other Cadillacs, Corvette, probably more). Apparently some folks are posting to the Cadillac Facebook page and getting some visibility. This is interesting.
I have a funny feeling that there is a hard coded issue, not something that could even be fixed with a firmware change. Which very much diminishes the chance of getting anything out of GM. The cars are old at this point anyway...

Re: General STS thread
Eh, I need to see something more official than this but...
OK Guys I called Radios and More and................... Your Radios are OK! It is a Firmware Problem. All Nippon Densos from 2005-2010 are having the problem and Nippon Denso Knows and will have a fix soon, whatever that means . Yes it is a firmware problem. Case Solved. Be Patient a Fix is coming. Radios and More says check back in 1 month. They hope to have a fix by them. People are sending radios in and they cant help yet. Cheers

Re: General STS thread
GM made a 2016 nav DVD.

eBay has a bootleg copy for cheap: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-2011-Cadi ... D0&vxp=mtr
I think I have 2014 maps now.

Re: General STS thread
Corvette forum found a GM bulletin. Engineering is looking into it.
Also occurred to me that I should probably not update my maps until this issue is resolved since it may cold boot the unit...
Look at the affected vehicles list! The good news it that probably significantly increases the chances of a fix. Just hope it's free.

Re: General STS thread
Car told me to check coolant level this morning...
When I got to work I checked the level and it was at the same level warm that it has been cold which suggests it may still be losing coolant. I will have to check cold and see where the level is. It has been extremely cold though. Not ready to call it still leaking....yet.

Re: General STS thread
I just went out to check it. It is down like an inch! Pretty sudden. The good news is, I looked at the thermostat housing area and I see definite coolant puddling. The 60 seconds of staring at it in the parking lot did not reveal what was actually leaking but it goes back to my original theory: something I touched when I did the thermostat is now leaking. Either the housing gasket or the hose that attaches to the housing. Best bet is probably order a new gasket, take it off, clean everything including the hose and stuff, and reinstall. Debating whether to order an OEM thermostat instead of the aftermarket one I got. Eh maybe just the gasket.
This means I had two problems - a cap that did not hold pressure and this leak. They are of course related, as the simple act of replacing the thermostat required touching all of these components. Also, with the cap now holding pressure, the leak is going to be exacerbated which explains the more sudden loss of coolant.
