VW Vortex: Impala SS or Marauder?

I'd pick the Impala. I drove a friend's (super-beater, falling apart) Roadmaster Estate back in high school and it was AWESOME. We called it the Swaggin (Swagon?) Wagon. All it needed was an exhaust and a ****load of deferred maintenance to make it truly drool-worthy.
Impala all the way. There's one local to me that did have a big procharger on it, now on twin turbos with nitrous. An honest to god 10 second street car. With full interior. The car is insane.

Oh snap.
7.5 seconds to 60 and 15.5 in the quarter means even my old 4th gen Maxima was faster. The Marauder looked badass, but it was a sheep in wolf's clothing.
The Maxima card has been played.

YES
Neither.
Get an LT1-powered Cadillac Fleetwood. Preferably black/black slicktop with the tow package.
Then play Lego with all the GM bolt-ups. C5 Brakes, Impala SS suspension, etc.
It's a 4,500lb V8-powered middle finger to the world and I've always wanted one. Preferably with a big supercharger and an interior skinned in some kind of endangered animal pelt.

Ok, no thread end.
Saw a next gen Impala at the grocery store during lunch today.
It reminded me how much GM cribbed of this Impala SS's popularity.
They went to a painfully mainstream front wheel drive Impala and kept the rear side window.. and many other styling cues including the wheels.
DGGM is nice. I am biased, but I think these will always look good.

But yeah. Sad. Those aren't 17s, either.

lol
Reminds me of the old Folgers commercials. "We've secretly switched this dealer's aging rear wheel drive V8 sedans with a milquetoast front wheel drive V6. Let's see if any of the customers notice."

Friend had an Impala SS. He really likes it. Kept it until 2004 and 300,000 miles.
He posted on the SS web site about his high mileage, and he was very surprise at the number of people that were well past 300,000 miles. He thought he's be the highest.
The Panther cars are definitely carrying the high mileage wood torch now, but obviously B-bodies are/were perfectly capable of it.

Wow.

1996 Caprice Classic with 133k miles. Bought it off the second owner who has owned it since 1999 and 34k miles. He also had every oil change/mod/service visit documented in a PDF file.
Mod List...
160* thermostat
Deep Trans Pan
Neal T/C cover
VDO trans temp gauge
dual trans cooler
9C1 deflectors
K&N FIPK
Throttle Body Air Foil
Gran MAF
F-Body EGR
TB bypass
LT4 ESC
air pump delete
body mount bushings upgrade
Moog problem solver idler arm
Moog CC621 rear springs
9C1 LCA front upgrade
Bilstein shocks all around
upgraded rear lower control arms
SS rims and tires
PCMforless modified OBD2 (Running Premium)
ATR Quad stainless exhaust (Rare and the best sounding exhaust for the LT1 B-Bodies)
3.73 gears with Eaton posi unit
Dynotech 3" MMC balanced driveshaft
Drilled and slotted front brake discs and semi-metallic pads
Can pull a nasty hole shot.
The hood clear coat is coming off and the driver side fender needs to be realigned and painted. Has some rust starting, but it is a Chicago car and it will be addressed. I have to say that the drive train is solid as a rock.
Bottom line, I love it and it cost me 16 Ben Franklins.
$1600??? I should just find a clean B-body to start with rather than dump a bunch of rust effort into mine. Yeah, not the same car but Mike O'D did go through a bunch of B-bodies in his time.

Needs TLC. Your favorite:

Also low miles. And that green color.

$9k and still needs TLC? TLC is cool when you pay $1300 for a Fleetwood with 71k on it...but I do wonder if I should start looking semi-seriously for affordable, rust-free options to replace my Caprice. Although the thought of getting rid of it makes me pretty sad. Probably not sad enough to do a body off resto...

Are you looking for a B-body as a replacement?

Not really looking for anything right now. I've "always" had it so the thought of replacing it, as I mentioned, makes me sad.
