This guy is going the extra mile to bring the car through a smog referee to make it all legal when it's done. As he mentions, that means he needs things like the evaporative system to function.
Aside from being a B-body, this one is particularly cool because the car was in his family since new.
The LS1tech Conversions & Hybrids sub-forum is my new favorite thing.

Fun fact: if I am reading this correctly, the 91-96 plastic wagon tank bolts right in. Bam, instant upgrade.

I also like that he took the stock gas pedal and got it rigged up on the drive by wire assembly. So it will look stock in the pedal box. Very cool detail.

Interesting from another member:
What are your plans for the Interior? Are you going with buckets and floor console? Or keep it stock? If you are going for a floor shift with buckets, like the Holiday 88, use a G-Body console and buckets. The Holiday 88's used the same console, shifter, and seats from the cutlass. Im using buckets from a buick regal, a repro console and floor shifter from a Monte Carlo. I want my interior to look like it came like that from the factory since the Chevy B-Bodys didn't have buckets, console and floor shift as an option like the Olds, Buicks, and Pontiac B's. The BOPs borrowed parts from their G-body cousins.
I have zero experience with BOP B-bodies in the 80s.

This car has been in teh family since new, but it had 6 transmissions on the back of the original 307. When my grandpa owned it they could never rebuild the 200r4 right. It was back when people were afraid of it still and didnt think it was a very good transmission, so im guessing the tranny shop years ago did it, I have no idea how though.
Interesting.

Yes!!
Ive also driven it a few miles finally, with the exhaust on it and holy crap. From the 307 to the 350 TBI i had in there it was a difference. Mostly in the reliability factor. I never had to do anything to it but change the oil. The power was never really there though. It was just a stock truck setup, the exhaust wasnt big enough though, and the trans was tired again. Youd punch it to pass someone and well it would go, just leasurley, and makin a lot of noise in the process. But from that to the 6.0, dude! You hit the gas it plants the rear end and goes, doesn't think about it, just does what you tell it to. I cant wait to really get it out on the road, my dad is gonna laugh at how much faster it is.
Shout-out to TBI reliability though.

UPDATE!! Sorta haha...dealin with the ref right now. Long story short you still cant put a frekin truck motor in a car...but, i was able to push it up the chain and got an exception from the state cause well, its way cleaner than the 307 that came out. The issue I ran into now is the cats. My exhaust guy put on cats for a 1500 truck/escalade, 2 cats. The motor is out of a 2500HD which had 4 cats. all 2500's seemed to have 4 cats, no way will they fit under that car. SO...Wednesday im gettin the ECU flashed as a 1500 with a 6.0 so everything underhood will match, including the cats i had put on, and i should be good to go.
I like flashing it to a 1/2 ton to solve the problem with how many cats are needed by the referee.

I will say restoring a car form teh 80s sucks...nothing fits, new parts are of crappy quality, but i know this is kinda across the bored for repop parts, but for this car, things are somewhat different, caprice parts sotra fit and have to be adjusted there are almost no tailgate parts available, no seals other than the window scrapers but anywho, need to chrome the bumpers still, teh hub cap hubs and some of the roof rack parts and aluminum pieces like the drip rail trim. they are too beat up to be polished and cleared. stainless to be polished and the only clips i cant find are the belt molding clips for the front fenders. For what ever reason the fenders have holed instead of studs like the rest of the damn car and i cant find a part number for em yet
I guess starting with a Caprice would have at least made it easier.

Next update...its legal. Refer smogged and good to go. It's officially a 2003 Silverado SS. Friday was rough. Visit to the speed shop to flash the ecu to match and a blowout 60 miles from the ref. what scared me more than the blowout which was pretty uneventful was the space saver spare from 1982 I had to now drive 160 miles on at 50 mph. It was a long long day but all in all was good day and I will have tags in the mail next week.
