I can only imagine how many Japanese execs committed suicide over this.

Actually, the Cavalier was never really an unreliable car. And it damn well shouldn't have been when you think about how many mistakes preceded the 1982 J-body.

I agree it wasn't unreliable, but the NVH was horrible compared to the Japanese competition. This created some issues with perceived quality that I would argue GM is still trying to recover from.
