The analysts at Kelley Blue Book http://www.kbb.com, the vehicle valuation and information source trusted and relied upon by both consumers and the automotive industry, today report the estimated average transaction price (ATP) for light vehicles in the United States was $33,666 in March 2016
According to some research, the average new car transaction price in 1995 was $18,400.

2016 Camaro 1SS: A little over $37k

1995 Camaro Z28: $18,160.

So in 2016, the "base" Camaro V8 is 10% more than the average new car transaction price, while the 1995 Camaro Z28 was the same as the average new car transaction price.

Do you think the 2016 Camaro 1SS represents at least 10% more value in the market than the 1995 Camaro Z28 did in its market? Go watch the M4 vs Camaro video from M/T and come back - I think the answer is obvious. A 95 Z28 may have been as fast as a 95 M3, but everything else was either worse, or much worse.

Sounds like a good car to buy in 15-20 years for me.

I agree with that statement! Also, the Gen 5 Camaro SS is around low 20's if not slightly lower. It might be time to start seriously looking at those. I don't think they will go below 12K for an extremely long time, so the loss is really the delta between what you pay and 12K. The Gen 4 Camaro held 10K for a long time, and the GTO is for the most part still over that price in most cases at 10 years old.19K for an SS over 5 years to still be worth 12K is 7K loss. That is not horrible depreciation to be driving that car. Granted, I don't plan on selling it, so resale matters less.

I agree with your assessment and conclusion.
